Have you shot a Weatherby lately?

I haven't heard much chatter about Weatherby's on this sight. I've always thought the Mark V Deluxe is arguably the best looking rifle out there. When I'm plinking beer cans with my father-in-laws .300 WBY Mag I find it to be incredably accurate for a 30yr old gun that's been dragged through the Caribou back country.

I've always wanted a new one but have found them a little cost prohibitive to operate. Anybody have an opinion as to which Weatherby was the greatest? German, Jap, or the new USA made ones? I invite any Weatherby enthusiasts to post pics of their beauties and share experiences with their favourite WBY calibers.

Keep Shooting!

They are an acquired taste, IMO. I love them. Mark V's and Vanguards, I've never had a bad shooter int he half dozen or so I've owned. I now have a Fibermark and Vanguard and they're both great guns, .300 WBY for the Fibermark and .257 WBY for the Vanguard.

The Weatherby MarkXX11 22lr shoot great actually stunning with Elley Club one hole at 50y and under 1" at 100y but they are really a Anshutz

Ok, here is one of mine. It is a stainless synthetic in .340

I have a Japanese Mk V Deluxe in .300WBY... shot a few animals with it. never seen anything drop that fast... but the thing with The mark Vs is, once you get one, you have an irresistible urge to get more... I need a .340 next!

I've got 2 Mark Vs, one synthetic in .257 and one ultralightweight rebarrelled to .300 Win. I took the second one down to Argentina last month with good results. I could have sold it easily, and had to sell my Geovids to the ranch owner.
I've also got a .300 Weatherby Mag on a Vanguard, restocked in a Boyd's JRS and trigger swapped out to a Timney.
The Weatherbys have a slim feel to them, and fit me well. They are a solid action. The Vanguard feels and feeds slicker than oil on an ice-cube.
Nothing much wrong with Weatherby rifles, many Weatherby owners though..................................:nest:

Like the guys say you either hate'm or love'm, I am on the fence I dont care for the flamboyant style stocks, but I really like the quality of the rifles, I am on the search for an early Mauser actioned 300 Weatherby and a Weatherby 220 Rocket! very rare. But for now I plink away with my Weatherby markXX11 1966 semi auto 22 rimfire. even with the high price's you will never regret buying a true Weatherby not the Howa's that wear the Weatherby monaker( not in the same class!!) You may have to pay $2500 for a new Mark V model but well worth it, just my 2 cents, dale in T-Bay

The Mark V is an over sized boat of an action. To much weight for so little performance. The .378 Case is the only one that truly fills it. The 9 lugs thing is a gimmick, as Roy was a gimmicky guy. Three solid lugs accomplish the same thing and Keep It Simple Stupid applies here.
Weatherby's do not have $2500 worth of quality built into any of there standard production rifle, including the gaudy glossy wood with inlays stuff they still make. The Accumark, and the Ultralights when they sold in the 1800 range were reasonable.
I admit the stock design fits me very well, and an Ultralight in 300 Weatherby or 257 appeals. But for the money there are far better rifles with less hype attached.
It's a cult rifle base, nothing more.
Now the Sauer and Denmark built rifles are a different story.
But fill yer boots man, if you want a 10lb $2500 dollar rig to shoot pop cans at $5 a round, I am not the man to stop capitalism in motion. Roy Weatherby was a vacuum cleaner salesman, and a good one. Good enough he's still working from the grave.

even with the high price's you will never regret buying a true Weatherby not the Howa's that wear the Weatherby monaker( not in the same class!!)

Neither the Vanguard or the Mark V are built by Weatherby, but both wear the Weatherby name.Only the original rifles that preceded these models were actually built by Weatherby. As to quality,I have owned both Vanguards and Mark V rifles, and the Vanguards were more accurate.Considering price, the Vanguard offers great value for the dollar, but the Mark V is not in the same class as Cooper or Sako, even though the price tag is very similar.

Either you luve them or.....

Cue the Weatherby bashers......

For the record, I love them and have never owned one that was not accurate.
Ford... Chevy... Dodge, or another way, IH, John Deere or Massey Ferguson.
They are an acquired taste after 30 years the debate still rages on.
They offer some bragging room as the fastest by a few feet per second and one or two Wby. rounds are leeps and bounds over others. But at a cost.
So, back to my original statementH:S: "Either you luv them or ..."
I am partcial to my Vanguard in .257 Wby.:needPics:
Shoot Them if You Got one boys.

I just picked up a 257 Weatherby accumark and its shooting 5/8" groups at 100 with factory ammo:dancingbanana:I am in the process of loading some 115 partitions as well as ballistic tips for hunting.Any one have a favourite varmint bullet for this caliber?I also have a Weatherby mark v in 300 Weatherby. These rifles are fantastic.
Cheers,Steve.

Never owned a Mk V but I had an entry level Weatherby Vanguard in 30-06 that was very very accurate. Sold it to a buddy (who still has it to make room for other stuff and after a while got another one ( the deluxe version with shiny blueing and a nice wood stock ) that it also very smooth and very accurate. In my book they are good rifles.

Needless to say I'm a huge Weatherby fan. They are as follows:
.340 Euromark
.30-378 MkV Synthetic in H.S Precision stock
.378 Accumark special ordered from Weatherby
.270 Ultra-Lightweight
.240 MkV Synthetic in Ultra-Lightweight stock
.243 MkV Synthetic in Ultra-Lightweight stock.

All shoot very well with their respective handloads.

I got two Vanguards. This is the 300wby in stainless/laminate
Its shown here with the Leup scope but I've since switched it to a Zeiss Conquest.
As you can see it's quite accurate. That's a .235" group at 100yds with reloaded 180gr TSX's

My other Vanguard is currently the factory blued/tupperware in .243win, but I have a 6mm/284 barrel to put on it and I'm going to install a Timney trigger and place it in a bedded lam stock also.;)
I have plans to buy an Accumark in 338/378 when I get the cash together. It too will get a Zeiss.

I see everyone is still very opinionated on the Weatherby Hyperbole!!! I love the quality of there product as they are one of the only Big company with a custom shop still left and are more than glad to build it to your order, you can;t say that about most American gun companies these days. I know all of us don't want to pay the prices these days , but if you want an wood stocked rifle with open sights nowadays there's not much choice and Weatherby is one of the few willing to accomidate us with old tastes! I wish the Vangaurds were available with some nice English Walnut, and some nice open sights, HAHAHAHA this battle will never end!! Dale in T-Bay

Love em. I have shot mkv in 460, 378, 375, 340, 300 and 7mm. I own a 460 Jap. I prefer this over the US model on the 460 as the floorplate release is outside the trigger guard. Saves the finger. My wifes go to gun is a Jap deluxe in 7mm Weatherby. Very nice shooter and very accurate. I also have a 375H&H in a snow camo stock US made that is very nice. I don't shoot it enough. And the last one is a 510 Wells that was a US model synthetic in 338/378 that now wears english walnut and open sights. As for pics I only have one of my 375. It now has a 2-7 Redfield on it.
