I've looked everywhere I can think of for a mag for my No.4 mkI, has anyone seen these in stock? Do these appear in waves and that's why they're hard to find or are they just that rare?

There were some at Marstar. They're pricey ($70 each). I just got one a few weeks ago. I missed the Woodstock gun show, so I don't know if anyone was selling any there. I know P-Mag makes an aftermarket one, as well.

The mag you are looking for has a SINGLE locking rib down the back.

Get one, put it in your rifle and don't take it out except for cleaning.

Don't leave it unattended or it will grow legs and walk away. NEVER loan it out! I think there are guys out there who have bushels of the things, convinced that they need them for fast reloads and too lazy to use a Charger. Serious. I got took for THREE of the things at one shoot. Never again!

"...why they're hard to find..." One made per rifle and not since the early 50's. There's no place for your local shop to buy 'em from either. Promags are junk. Poorly made from M-14 mags, as I recall.
"...convinced that they need them for..." Lot of 'em think all mag fed rifles were reloaded with another mag too.

When the MLM first came out they were issued with a "spare" mag but this was short lived & within a couple of years (cant be bothered looking up the year but early 1890s) they were withdrawn & returned to store, after that all Lee Metfords/Enfields SMLEs No4s etc were issued with only the one mag.
when people tell you they were issued with 2 mags, while they are correct, it is misleading.

Found it, the spare mags were ordered back to stores Oct 1890, the first rifles were issued Dec 1889 so spare mags are really just a "footnote" in the History of the Lee.
Replacement mags should not be confused with spare mags.

Someone is selling new manufacture steel (Pro mag) No4 Mags in the EE parts for $75 each shipped.

Or you can do a google search and buy them (in Canada) from a retailer for $39.99 each, like I did. :)

EEeesh, last time i went shooting, a shooter left his SMLE mag on the rifle rack. I cringed knowing hes gonna be screwed. I gave it to RSO and i hope he got it back.
