Hello All,

I was just wondering your thoughts and or reviews on Hawke Panorama EV 4-12x40
½ Mil Dot 10X Reticle and it's use as a long range (600yards+)

I feel it's an amazing price for what you get but let me know. http://www.hawkeoptics.com/hawke-panorama-ev-4-12x40.html

I have not heard of the company before, it seems like a cheap price for all you get. My interest is peaked. Im interested to hear more about this brand.

edit. just read the warranty. It seems they leave a lot up to Hawkes "discretion". and its non-transferrable. Anyone tried a claim?

I've got the Hawke Varmint 6-24x with side focus mounted on my .223. Its survived a few years of hard use and always holds its zero, adjustments on the turrents work perfectly. My only complaint is that its very sensitive to relief distance making it hard for someone else to use my rifle and the glass quality is not great.

I own a Hawke Varmint 4-16 and two of their Sidewinder tactical scopes... 6.5-20 and 8.5-25. They all have the .5 mildot reticles. The Sidewinders have excellent glass and I love the .5 mildots. As for their toughness, the Varmint took a tumble from a bench onto a cement floor... she still works perfectly. I don't see many Hawkes around. The only way I found out about them was because I was an airgun shooter, and many field target guys like them because they focus down to 10 yds.
As far as the Panorama, I've never looked thru one, but would imagine the glass quality might be similar to the Varmint... pretty good, but no where near the Sidewinders.

Hawke optics have a distributor in Peterborough Ontariio(http://www.theoutdoorwire.com/story/1327309166f5fr3vc3apr). I've had at least 10 different Hawke products and had no issues with any of them. Half of them my buddies bought off me and some of the other ones went with guns I sold. I think they are pretty good value for the money. I got lucky at one gun show and a guy was selling a bunch of last year model 3.5-10x 50/Map 8 reticle models. I bought 10 of them because he made me a deal for $50 each. I still have 3 left. Had the sidewinder 8.5-25 with 1/2 mil and loved it but had a guy at the range make me an offer on the gun and scope I couldn't turn down. Would buy one again for sure.
Scott...

I have a Hawke Varmint on a 17 hmr......it has the worst eye relief I have ever used on any scope in my life. I would look at something else if I were you.
As far as eye relief of the Varmint on a 17hmr... who cares, yer not gonna get scope eye with that combo! As far as the OP, he IS lookin' at something else... he's lookin' at the Panorama... C.

A good scope should have semi decent eye relief regardless of what it sits on. Hawkes are notoriously bad, I will never buy another nor recommend one. The Panorama is the same cheap optics with a different name.

I bought mine years back when I knew nothing about optics.....I can't sell it for half of what I paid for it...they are that bad.

Hi, Scott. I would agree that the "lesser" scopes in Hawke's lineup are iffy. As I said above, I have not seen a Panorama, so I will believe you saying it's not so good. If you get a chance to look thru a Sidewinder Tactical, I think you may be surprised. If I'm on 16x, I can see .22 holes at 300yds. Not as bright as some (42mm objective) but very clear. The eye relief is good enough that I don't get scope eye with a .308... cheers... C.
