Did a search on this and didnt find the answer I was looking for. I was interested in buying a 10-22 stock from Hawktech. They say the shipping is free for Canadians. Has anyone ordered from them and had to pay duty or any other surprise charges from shipping after you paid Hawktech? I hate ordering and paying for things from the U.S. only to get dinged again.:bangHead:

I have ordered barrels, a KID trigger....etc. I wouldn't worry about the $100 thing. I asked this question to Dan who runs hawktech and he said that he has never had an order not make it to Canada. Some just take longer than others if customs hold them up.

On the expensive items like the barrel I ordered, I had to pay $50 in custom fees when I picked it up from the post office.

Have your orders been above $100 and where there any duty charges from the delivery company? Who did they use for shipping?

duty

You will pay duty and GST on almost anything you have come across the border. I have ordered from Hawktech as well and never had a problem. Good Luck.

Not true. If the items you order are made in the US or Mexico, you pay NO duty bringing them into Canada. You would pay GST for sure and PST in most cases.

On the other hand, if an item is made in China (depending on the product) you are liable to pay up to 18% in duty. Clothing is a good example. Made in USA or Mexico good (no duty), made in China bad. (some items 17-18%).

The biggest expense in importing stuff from the US is brokerage fees. Those fees are outrageous, especially UPS and Fedex. I now do all of the forms myself and save a ####load of money.

NAFTA says no duty on items made in the US. Like Turf pointed out, you might have to pay GST and maybe PST though. I've ordered from Hawktech and Rimfiresports on numerous occasions and have yet to pay any taxes.

Well thanks guys. Sounds like it will be a crap shoot. I guess I could ask them to mark its value at 50 bucks instead of 150. I know another way is if the ship it usps air. If they ship it air there are no duty charges. Not sure how much extra the shipping would be but my stock would get here quicker :D

When ordering from the US....I believe if your package is labeled as a "gift" you don't have to pay gst/pst either;)

...but that would be lying, and lying is bad:(
