What's the hazmat fee like when ordering from Higginson? Does it change with how much you're ordering, or with what you're ordering (primers vs. powder vs. both)?

Just looking for a ballpark figure, nothing exact.

Thanks.

I pick my stuff direct from Higginson so I have no idea what the hazmat fee would be. Email Andrew direct, customer service is excellent at Higginson.

I think they're waived if you order 21lbs or more of powder. Powder and primers cannot be packaged together, so you'll get double-whammied there.

Shipping on orders 21 pounds of powder are free, They ship primers in another box usually with the bullets I order, Shipping is charged on the bullets due to weight.
Hazmat fee is charged once(powder and primers) and the shipping on bullets is very resonable I thought.

Excellent company to deal with!

Oh I'm goin to take a beating here. The darned ol truth. I've done a ton of biz through Higgy, but as of late I've found the local high priced Joe is a buck or two cheaper and in the orig sealed containers....You gotta pick up but I'm ok with that

I'm with you on that. I'm a regular customer at Higginsons (bought stuff there this week), but when 1 lb containers of powder at LeBaron in the factory container is less expensive than repackaged bulk powder at Higginsons (even when I pick it up), something's not right. BTW - they know about it. They're a business and maybe it's the right business decision. Can't say where the prices cross-over (Higginsons gives discounts for quantity), but as typically buy it 1 lb at a time, I don't care.

You guys in Ontario have lots of options to where to buy powder, We in BC have no Lebarons, bass pro, etc, etc.

Higginsons is still the best value out west, also if you buy there you a suppporting a small business owner, not some big box store.

I agree, buy in bulk get the same lot number, great for the long term.

For a pound at a time, I'll buy locally. It's not woth paying shipping for a pound of powder. Some powders it's good to keep around in bulk. Varget, 4895, 4831, WC-735 surplus - so versatile that it's great to have lots on hand. For other stuff that I use a lot less of, or when I'm doing load work, a pound at a time is fine.

I've taken to buying primers 5,000 at a time as well. I hate running out of primers, and having to drive out to pick up $3 unit (cause WS is ALWAYS sold out of the biger boxes. Sigh)

$23.50 a pound for most stick powders bought in 4 pound packages is a LOT cheaper than the $34.00 per pound our local guy wants. Hell even Higginson's $26.00 per pound for a 1 pound order is cheap in comparison.

If you don't need 21 pounds at a time get a few guys together and do a group order.
