I'm getting set up to reload for my "new" Webley WG .455. from what I've read here, Webleys are much more accurate with the hollow base which will expand to seal the bore. I have some .458 HB bullets to start out with, but eventually will have to find some more.

My question is, does a .458 bullet need to have a hollow base to seal the bore since it's already .003" larger? I ask because I'm looking into some custom molds and would like to keep the price down as much as possible.

thanks,
Greg

The name of the cartridge is .455 but have you actually slugged the bore or throat? I'm not sure what they average but I would bet that they varied at least a couple thousandths over the years.

A soft bullet thats 2-3 thou over bore diameter should preform well in most cases though. I'm sure that some of the guys that have similar pistols will chime in with what they have found to work well.
