Had a good season. No draws but I filled all my tags except the elk one which I never fill anyway (maybe next year). My wife filled two of hers so we were able to put 5 deer in the freezer, lots of waterfowl, a few pheasants and a 100 or so pounds of salmon and ground fish (plus a 300 lb hog raised at home).
This little guy first showed up in October and we let him and many others pass all season, waiting for the big guy using the property.
We hadn't seen him since the above pic was taken and I assumed that he was dead. Last night we were in the stand and waiting once final time for one of the bruisers that were around. The wife passed on several small but symetrical bucks that we left for the future. In the last 3 minutes of legal who should show up again but the twisted spike. Neck shot at 40 yds didn't challenge her much.
Taking this one out should hopefully improve the genetics.
Here is my deer from a trip to southern AB earlier. Apparently it is a decent whitetail for that area but I wouldn't know. He was the biggest of the three shot down there and was a challenging shot that we had ranged at 410 yds across a coulee. Foot access only so we had to hike back to the truck drive to the end of the coulee, walk a mile up the coulee to gut him and then drag him back the mile to the truck. I forgot the game cart at home and caught no end of #### for doing so.
The total results of our 3 man trip to the south, two mulies and 3 whitetails in 2 days of hunting.
