Now this has got me really confused , 270wsm @ 100 yds

I sighted this rifle for 140 accubounds 3 inchs high at 100 back when I got it.
I have not used it since and allways watch how the gun is handled and the scope is not bumped.

I just got some 150 patition silvertips and ranged it at 100 and found that the shells were hitting 10 inches high and 4 inchs to the left.

I knew when I shot this buck last week in the field in or around the 275 mark that I shot over the deer with the first shot. After I bolted another shell I aimmed near level with the gut outline and hit it perfect for a drop kill, so this gun was hitting high before the shot.

Question : I have to wonder how the gun started shooting high after it was sighted in, Would it have something to do with the gun being new and only having a box of shells shot through it ?

I just can't understand why it would have been out, but I have it now shooting 1in high @100 with good groups...

Any ideas Guys ...BT

Did you clean it after you shot the 140's?

Sometimes for some reason my Rem 700 shoots off for the first couple rounds after I clean it, it's like it needs to build up something inside the barrel for some reason.

Sounds like utter crap but it's true.

It is very common for a rifle to shoot a heavier bullet high . It has to do with barrel vibrations or whip, I believe the proper term is harmonics. Another bullet may shoot lower or higher yet. Some rifles are more prone to this tham others. I have aTikka 595 in 22-250 that will shoot the five loads I have tried so close together it hardly makes a difference. The center of group for all loads tried has been less than an inch apart. The next load might fly way out there.

I had the same kinda experience, I was shooting a 7mm rem mag with 154 g's dead on at 100yrds, I tried somw 120g vmax's and they were a good 8 inches low. didint make much sense to me at the time but I have found this long (26) barreled gun to do the same with 110's (even lower) and 175's (even higher)

guns often shoot different shells to different point of impacts, but 10" is extreme but possible

its very foolish to sight in with one load and hunt with a different one without checking the zero

tod , I think you have just misunderstood here , I had it sighted for 140 acc's and hunted with them, but noticed after a shot that it seemed higher then what I had range the gun. I noticed it alot after I decied to sight in for 150's for my next hunt that the 150's were high aswell. As I would have thought 150's would have been a little lower on the target then a 140.

Anyways I now have it sighted in for 150's @ 1in high @ 100. I'll find out in PA how it shoots now. Thanks guys ...BT
