Looking to purchase a field head space gauge for the Lee Enfields, I prefer to purchase from one of the site sponsors. Anyone know who has them?

Thanks,

Craig

You could always use the tape method. People used it for years before the widespread availability of gauges

Or you COULD just use a pony-tail tie around the base of your fresh rounds, fire them like that and let them expand to fill the chamber, thus fitting them to YOUR rifle.

Then you neck-size only and your brass lasts bout 20 shots instead of 3.

But then, if you anneal the case-mouths every 10 shots and us a sane load, your brass might last halfway to forever.

Cheaper than gauges, too.

BTW, MIN is .064" MAX is .074".

Out-of-spec RIMS can give as much as .025" execss headspace on a perfect rifle.

Works with any RIMMED Centrefire cartridge. That includes .303, 8x50R, 8x50R Lebel, 8x56R, .30-30, whole raft more.

Good trick to know when you are converting casings, especially for obsolete calibres where the brass is either terribly expensive or impossible to locate. I will be using it in my quest for cheap 11.15x60R (.43 Mauser) casings; I am starting with .300 WinMag (belted) and a lathe.

Pony tail tie? Pardon my ignorance but is that just a twist tie around the base of the cartridge? Won't that jam the action?

Think "little elastic bands" for girls hair. You can find them at dollar store/dollarama kind of places. Probably 250 or 500 in a pack the size of a cigarette pack, about two or three dollars.

"...You could always use the tape method..." Bits of tape, empty cases, twist ties, girlie hair decorations, ouija boards and anything else tells you nothing.
Not many gun shops carry guages or any gunsmithing tools. You can buy 'em Stateside with no fuss though. You need a No-Go as well as a Field.

For those of us who actually shoot firearms and understand how the headspacing a rimmed cartridge works all of these methods work.
