Hi Guys,If this is allready posted i apologize.I took a quick look through the forums and i didn't see it although i may have missed it or something.

Maybe i should have put it in the General forum instead of here as well but i am sure a mod can fix that if this is the wrong place for it.

While at the post office mailing a rifle yesterday The person who works there(i know her) showed me there new shipping policies that come into effect as of (((Monday JAN 15 ))).

The only way they will ship Firearms from now on is Priority. Just to give you an idea of the cost difference it cost me $22 (With signature and insurance) to mail the rifle but would have been around $66 for their Priority method.

Sure makes buying online a little more expensive.

She also said that they were going to have to start to write down PAL info and was told that they would have to contact the CFC to make sure it is a legal shipping before doing it.

Does anybody know of a cheaper allternative or better way??

Anyways maybe everyone allready knew this but i didn't and i just wanted to save anyone a nasty surprise at the post office next week.

Ya, I know a better way, don't tell them whats in the box, it's not their business as long as it's being sent in Canada and there is nothing in there thats on their flammable or explosive list they've got no reason to make you ship priority.

Glad you started this, now if they ask me whats in the box I'll reply steel pipe, what, I won't be lying!;)

Can't find anything on the Canada Post website about this.
Perhaps some concrete information would be useful.

Tiriaq,If you are calling me a liar ,thanks a bunch.

I can only tell you what she showed me(yes she actually showed me where it said they would have to be shipped priority) in the book she said she received the day before yesterday.I don't think she printed it up just to screw with me or anything.Small community and i have known her for years.

The part about the PAL number and having to phone the CFC i did not see with me own eyes.

She phoned another office while i was there to ask some questions about that part and confirm it herself so if she is wrong i guess there is at least another post office that is wrong as well. And also received the wrong literature about it.

Just wanted to save anyone some trouble next week.

I don't feel the need to run to the post office tommorow and get a photocopy to offer you "concrete proof" in the least.

I could really care less whether you believe me or not.

Hell ,if i went and got her to photocopy it someone would probably accuse me of typing it up myself or something.I put it out there to try to save some trouble.

Take it or leave it as you will.

I guess all will find out soon enough for themselves.

I guess i have noticed before on here and other forums that even if you just want to help anyone out there are always the type of guys that jump at the chance to call someone a liar or accuse them of fabricating something "just for the sake of making something up i guess".

I should have expected that response from some i guess. It's one of the reasons i rarely post anything.

Can't think of a better way to have a postie identify that long box is actually a firearm, now witha "priority" tag on it! They don't need to know sqat!

If you really want to fool them just take the barreled action out of the stock. It shortens the box alot, saves on shipping and no suspision arises.
Shipping with Xpress post, insured with a signiture is just as safe.

Cheers!!

I read Tiriaq's post, buddy relax. I think you are overreacting.

He did not call you a liar, re-read it and chill.

Holy crap Sako take a pill, Tiriaq wasn't pointing fingers in a 2 sentence post, just saying that he was at the Canada post website looking for more info on what your talking about.  :runaway:

Sako220, next time you believe someone is saying you are full of it, click on their name and select the 'Find More Posts by ...' option. Scan through some of their previous posts (as in tiriaq's case) and then decide if you are being called out or not. IMO, you have over reacted a little here.

I have only been asked once what I was shipping, and that was a nosey old lady waiting in line. I told her it was golf clubs. Nobody else seemed to care and she was satisfied with the answer.

I don't plan on "volunteering" any information in the future and I am definitely not going to give out my PAL # to a postal employee (or postal 'contractor').

MadDog, I might use your "steel pipe" answer if you don't mind - that's a good one.:D

info

just a question, but if you don't identify it as a firearm - and it happens to get lost in the mail? are u sh>t out of luck?

My local PO tried to tell me about having to ship Priority as well a couple weeks ago as well. I got ahold of canadapost head office and they said it was news to them. I phoned CFC and it was the first they`d heard of it as well.
Only thing they said was firearms had to be shipped insured with sig required and had to be able to be tracked.

I don't need to read it again.I read it a fair number of times before i replied.

That's why i said "IF you are calling me a liar".

It just sounds that way to me the way it is written. It sounds like that because he found no mention of it on their web page i must have made it up or something.

However, If that is indeed not what he meant and i took it the wrong way then l i surely do apologize.

I don't need to calm down or anything i am not jumping up and down mad or all riled up or even mildly upset as far as that goes but i am not the best at putting stuff in words so i guess that is indeed must be how it sounded.

Or you guys wouldn't think that i was.

He didn't out and out call me a liar so i shouldn't have even used that word.

All i really should have said i guess was that if what he meant was he didn't believe me then that is his perogative.

Or better yet as i was not upset i should just not have bothered replying at all.

I guess i probably shouldn't have posted anything at all being poor at typing.I guess i am better of just reading them then responding or making them and that is what i usually do so i should have stuck with it.

People would have found out on there own about it anyways.

So Tiriaq if i misunderstood it i am sorry.
