Just in there today. For those interested, on top of the usual sks and Mosin Nagants, they had a Mosin sniper (didn't check it out. 700 some dollars) a K11 and a few Zastava Mausers to go with the RC K98s. The new giant Canadian Tire in South Common only has your average Mosin for surplus so if that's not your thing it's not worth your trip. Forgot to check on the available GP11 in Leduc.

Thought someone would like to know. Have fun shooting.

Same thing for Windsor Ont. SKS's, k98's, Yugo mausers, mosins , mosin snipers, SVT40's, mags for the svt40, k11's, m305's. AND! AND!!! Ammo to go with them all! crates of 7.62x54r, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, surplus k11 rounds, Tokerav ammo, and surplus 5.56. You name it they have it.

No k31s at either location. However, there are a few crates of surplus 7.5 swiss surplus in Leduc. Along with some non restricted Suomis. No SVT40's though.

I looked at the sniper. It's an ishy in pretty good shape with a scope serial stamped in it, with the mount electro pencilled number matching, but the scope has a manufacture date from the early sixties. My best guess is it saw refurbishment at least twice if it was electro pencilled then given a new scope later. Curious.

Frankly I was surprised to see SKS rifles at the CDN tire in Slave Lake for 180$s. They really seem to be getting more into guns.

I love how the Leduc CT puts a ridiculous price on the firearms and crate ammo price tags and then a sale price that is still $50-$100 more than the site sponsors to make you think you're getting a great deal. But to be fair they do have the occasional good deal and the selection isn't bad.

That's actually normal. The Mosin sniper wasn't officially replaced by the Dragunov SVD until (IIRC) 1963, and the Soviets had this habit of never throwing away anything that might still be useful. I don't know when the Mosin sniper rifle was fully removed from issue, but there ARE stories of it still being used during the Soviet intervention/invasion of Afghanistan in the 80's.

Wish I could get to Leduc and have a look myself, I want to score a genuine sniper (not a repro).

Oh yeah, the South side Edmonton Cabela's has a sporterized Steyr M95M that is mislabeled as a standard M95 for 300 bucks. Meanwhile a sponsor has an ad in the EE for two for $350. My suggestion, go handle that one and see if you like it, then buy from the guy in the EE.

They were still in use by the Russians way past the 80's, I think they may still be on issue, at least they were being used by the Russians during the Chechen War in 2004 when this picture was taken by Russian news media -
