Headspace

Hi Ferris

My previous post gave you a link to a crude description of headspace. If you wish the exact drawings and SAAMI specifications of a .308 Winchester headspace gauge I can send it to you via email.

I can also send you SAAMI drawings & specs for the .308 Win chamber and cartridge dimensions which will show you the relationship among all three (cartridge, chamber and gauge).

Does anyone has a headspace diagram?

good explanation?

Cheers,

Phil

Are you concerned about chambering and how to correctly headspace the chamber or are you concerned about reloading and correctly resizing so you don't create headspace with your reloads?

Basically when reloading you do not want more than one thousands of an inch between the bolt face of the closed bolt and the back of the chambered case. That could be referred to a one thou headspace with that loaded round.

Chambering to correct headspace is done using a steel go gauge manufactured to an exact measurement. All manufactured ammunition is made to a very slightly smaller measurement so it will chamber.
