Hello everyone,

I have recently procured a vz58 parts kit from our brethren to the South and am attempting to assemble this kit. Where I am coming up short is with the head spacing because I can find no pictures/videos/good clear explanations on how to go about it. I am aware the barrel is to be press fit into the receiver. I have also purchased the appropriate 7.62x39 Go/No go gauges and feeler gauge. So if anyone has a vz58 or cz858 and is familiar with the process of checking the head space could you please post pictures of how to do this.

Also to avoid all the legal posts I'm sure to receive I have spent many many hours on the phone with the RCMP determining the legality of this project and it is above bar. Mainly due to the fact of me manufacturing my own receiver from scratch and creating it in such a way that is can not accommodate the FA fire control group.

I thank you all in advance for any and all assistance.

Basically the fully stripped 'bolt' should fully close on a go gauge. It is okay if you can feel it close. It should not close on a no go gauge.

If you can't figure out how to do that, you should have a gunsmith do it.

Wbaad I found a mostly correct 3d cad file on grabcad.com then I borrowed a friends cz858 (the now prohibited one) and verified the dimensions on the cad to the actual receiver. Unfortunately lots was missing and lots was wrong so this project took far longer than I had hoped. Guntech thank you for saying to strip the bolt that made all the difference. I now have the barrel pressfit into the correct spot.

Hey wbadd I currently have an 80% receiver (furthest to the right in the first picture I linked) submitted the the ATF stateside. I expect to hear from them some time in January (they gave me a 90-120 day wait period). And based on their determination I plan to produce the 80% receivers for sale.

You need an insert for the semi sear because it fits over the FA sear (which I have made for mine). Also you need to obtain the rivets for mounting the trigger guard which I found at CzechpointUSA.com. They however won't ship to Canada. Fortunately I grew up stateside and had a friend ship those over.

Absolutely Beavermeat! The only reason why my 80% receiver went to the States first is because I only made one 80%. Plus their market is a million times bigger than our own. Once I hear back from them the receiver will make its way to the RCMP. I have babies and have no interest in jail. Besides I'm too pretty for jail.

I have made the receiver from 4140 annealed. The receiver is first roughed out leaving between .01"-.015" on critical dimensions (ie. barrel bore, feed ramp, and along where the bolt travels), second it goes out for heat treat reaching a rockwell of 40-45 (which is the same as the Century Arms vz2008), third I finish all critical features so they don't warp/bow/twist during the heating process.

Yeah Beaver I agree. I got tired of all the home build options (specifically 80%) being restricted here in Canada. I'll I've ever found by way here in Canada is the Dlask ar-15 and the Dlask 1911 both restricted. I want to complete one of these that everyone can buy. I'm also glad you liked my answer about heat treat. Guess I don't sound as crazy after some questions are asked LOL.

Didn't think the fa parts were a problem here unless used to make the gun fa. I figured they were more a problem owning them in the states.
Anyways great build and I look forward to your progress. Is there any hoops to jump through building one of these privately, frt wise?
Sorry if this is derailed from your original post!
