Hi guys. Can anybody identify this piece of brass? Calibre is 6.5X55.

"R" at 9 oclock, "P" across the primer at 3 oclock, with the number "4" at 12 oclock and "1923" at the 6.

So obviously made in 1923, but by which factory? I don't think Remington Peters, but I am quessing either Norway or Sweden:confused:

Thanks for any assistance.

Raufoss? In Norway.

I've got a couple Raufoss Ammunition rounds, 1940 dated, but their headstamp is RA, and looks like typical stamp. I'll get a pic on here later.

But,,,, I was told that this may in fact be a Raufoss manufacture. I can't find any documentation though.

RP Raufoss Patronfabriker later changed to Raufoss Ammunisjonfabrikker RA, Norwegian govt plant.

OK, and one more question for the ammo collectors. I'm a gun guy, and haven't worried too much about the ammo collection side of things. Tried to get a few rounds to go with each of the WW1 and 2 guns, but nothing too serious.

I've now got 1 live RA round, these 2 pieces of brass and the stipper clip, all to go with my Norwegian Krag, mod 1916 (complete military configuration).
Now,,,, I find that this brass and stripper clip are pretty well covered in a lot of "patina", OK dirt and crap.

Am I going to "ruin" the collectable status of the brass by throwing these 2 brass, in a tumbler for a couple hours? I just hate lots of crap on anything.
I was thinking no polishing media, just walnut shell for a couple hours to remove the crud.

Thought????

And green, what does the "4" stand for? Plant number?

Did not know there was a charger for the Norwegian Krag. Could you post a pic? 4 could be a month ,quarter of the year or lot number or something else. Don't know.

I doubt they have significant value in the first place
I agree, not a lot, couple bucks a piece at most. Everyone collects stuff for their own reason, and I've got the Norwegian WW2 stuff for my own heritage, etc. Part of that is the ammo to go with the firearms.

I've been trying for a few years, and have attended at least 10 gun shows specifically looking for Norwegian war time ammo or brass, both for my Krag and for my 1914 11.25mm pistol (Norwegian 1911 45acp). I've only been able to find, so far, is 1 live round and these 2 empty cases with stripper clips that I got from a guy this week. So yup might not be worth much, but I like to preserve the value of any little bit I can get, no matter what the dollar worth is.

green, here is the pic of the stripper clip. It is all brass and the only mark is the 7 in a circle on the inside.

Nothing too particular or unique with this clip, looks like any other. The fellow that I got the cases from feels this is also Norwegian, and seeing as I don't have enough knowledge on the ammo end of things, I can't dispute or confirm either way.

But it looks good, so I'm going to run with his story:D .

As you can see, the brass and clip are quite soiled and I think I'm going to just throw them in a tumbler for a couple hours to clean off the excessive dirt and corrosion.

Check that last about the 7 in a zero. After a bit of CLP and cloth work, the 7 is actually a Z.

Just to confirm that the spring inside, which usually is some sort of spring steel, is in fact brass as well.

Unless the things were battlefield pickups I'd say tumble away, at least until all the green stuff is gone, even if you bring it back to base metal, it will re-oxydize in fairly short time as long as you don't put any preservative on it. I have a WW2 dated 50 cal brass at the office that I use for a pen holder, I gave it a good shine last year but didn't put anything else on it, now it's a nice brown color, I just use a dry tissue to rub out any obvious fingerprints every other week or so now.
