Was thinking of upgrading to one of those electronic ear muffs for shooting skeet and sporting clays.
I have seen/read people using Walkers and Peltors.
I would appreciate any first hand experience with a specific brand/model.
thanks

You'll get lots of great advice here I am sure but I would also suggest going to Amazon and type in Electronic Ear Muffs and you can quickly see the highest rated and number of reviews. For instance the current Amazon's Choice item is the Howard Leight with over 1000 4.5+ reviews. Many good reviews to be read there . Hope this helps.. and whatever you do stay away from anything Caldwell. No matter how tempting the price. I got a pair on Prime day for $30 and they lasted two trips to the range before the mic died.

I have a set of Caldwell E-Max Low Profile electronic muffs and they’ve worked flawlessly for a couple years now. I use them primarily for skeet and trap. Their profile doesn’t interfere when mounting to the gun like some of the other bulkier brands. They have a 4 star rating on Cabela’s site.

I have a set of Peltor Sport Tactical and love them.
My phone is on or near me 24/7 because of work so they have Bluetooth. This is a plus that I can hear alerts while shooting but better still I can actually rock the tunes as well when there isn't someone else there to talk with.
Nothing like shooting while rockin' out to some classic rock.

I've had the Pelter electronics for a few years now, they aren't rated very high in Db's but the electronics work alright and they are pretty low profile. I usually put plugs underneath and turn up the volume so that conversation is easy but the hearing protection is doubled up.

Do your research, get the best protection.
Then also double up.

My hearing is almost gone now and it is a real pain to not hear properly
and hearing aids are not cheap.

I’ve used a pair of the Walkers Razor Slim for a couple of years now and have actually turned two shooting buddies onto them after letting them try them out for a few minutes. Have worked very well, comfortable, adjustable volume as with most electronic ear-pro and for the price they’re hard to beat!

Look at the noise reduction factor, always poorer than regular muff type, and think long term.
I wish I had better advice on hearing protection as a young worker.
Another 70 year old guy whose hearing ain't what it used to be.

I use Walker's ultra low profile muffs, well their Patriot version that Cabela's sells. Every year on Canada day they go 50% off, that's when I buy them. You might still have to double up if someone shows up with a muzzle brake on a .338, but that's most electronic earmuffs anyway.

I tried a pair of Walker's, but found they contacted the stock of my trap gun and was distracting, so I sold them. Have since bought a pair of Howard Leight, but haven't tried them yet. I just use foam plugs, and work well for me.

Buy what you choose based on the good advice here.

Then, at amazon.ca, buy a pair of Surefire defender ear plugs.

You will be able to hear conversation, and won't hurt your hearing over the years.

The electronics alone don't provide enough protection, in my opinion.

The Defenders allow conversation, and in combination with the muffs provide the protection you need.

Edit: For shotguns the muffs may be sufficient. My advice is slanted to rifle shooters where you may be near some big boomers.

Thanks I was looking for something like that..

I use surefires in ear and peltors over it. Works great. Can hear conversations and it blocks out loud gunfire. The only downfall is that when someone talks while a shot is fired near you, it looks like someone hit the mute button on the remote.

Same....I like being able to talk and hear at normal levels and then have complete sound cut-off when firing the gun. And yes the low profile is very nice. They dont bump the stock.

I use Howard Leight Impact Pro after trying Howard Leight Impact Sport (the slim ones).
The sport version works fine but the issue I had with them is after 35 min or so I found they made my ears hot and uncomfortable. I switched the Howard Leight Impact Pro and love em! I use HL foam earplugs with the Impact Pro electronic muffs over top. Even in an indoor range with the guy next to me popping off a .308 the combination of the two eliminates harmful noise.

I have Sardins. For the price, I’d probably go a different route. They are comfy, and their audio is great, however bad in the wind and brush (if windy). They amplify background noise and not voice, which is my biggest issue.

I have the Howard Lights too. I like how those amplify the voice. They lack in audio quality, reduction type and comfort though.
