Heartbreak

I have had my eye on this fella since last winter and was pleased to see him on my hunting property just a couple weeks ago. He looked healthy and had a nice rack coming along. He was one of two big bucks I'd be bowhunting this year.

This morning, I found him dead on the side of the road about 1km away. To add to the disappointment, after heading home to grab the trailer to collect him, I returned 20 mins later to discover that someone had come along and collected his head.

Such a shame to see a nice deer like that become roadkill... A dang shame!

Same reason as the poster did, it would make a nice mount, even at this time of year.
Sorry about your bad luck, I hate to see any animal die from a car accident.

I would love to have that deer on the wall because it's such an impressive animal, but would never claim to have poached a velvet buck that obviously died in the middle of the summer.

I'm sure this happens all the time but when its on your trail cam and you were hoping to hunt it and find it on the side of the road dead, that sucks, the whole head being cut off is just the icing on the s&hit cake. I would of pulled it off the side of the road and try to hide it in a ditch or something then come back but really I don't think you were expecting to come back to a headless deer.

I know its a rule but I find that dumb, why waste such good road kill. That could fill someones freezer.

We have a roadkill moose collection program up here. It go's to the foodbank if the meat is ok.

If the buck was still alive I'd at least give it another year or two before I'd consider shooting it, still had some potential to be a better deer. Sucks that it had to go out the way it did.

The soft antlers are used for certain Asian medicines, so the head is worth money if you know someone unscrupulous...

You could try and get a permit to keep it. Just do not touch it till you call the COs and ask for permission.

That doesnt always work in highly populated areas like southern ontario. That deer probably has a range which covers dozens of pieces of property.
