If you are like me and you don't like spending money you could invest in another gun I would like to share this idea with you. There are heat bases available (if you can get one) but I had this portable magnetic block heater stuck to some steel racking in my shop just in case my diesel tractor didn't start in winter. I bought the heater on sale at Princess Auto for under $20.00. It is 400 watt which is similar to the bases available.
Problem: Sizing bullets is slow and after a while you get tired of trying to squeeze your home made lubes through the sizer.
Solution: Just add heat. The task is simplified quite a bit and speed is increased.
Design: Build a steel base with side 2 inches high to allow for a portable block heater and place sizer on steel, plug in, and wait 30 minutes, your sizing task is quite a bit different.
Tricky part: The bolts that are used to mount the sizer on the plate must be welded flush on the steel plate to allow for direct contact of the heater to the plate. I beveled the holes, welded the bolts on and ground the weld flush.
Please excuse the C clamps I have not decided on a permanent home for the sizer yet. It has been collecting dust for about 15 years until I recently started using the Magma Engineering Bullet caster. This design will work with the Star sizer as well.
