I have an Remington 870, with a Hogue pump installed.

Does anyone know what my options are for heatshields that will work with the Hogue pump?

The only universal heatshield I can find is the ATI one. From the picture is looks like the heatshield wraps around too much and my pump would hit it, but im not sure. Anyone use this setup?

Does anyone else make heatshields for the 870? Does Remington make a heatshield for the 870 tactical?

Thanks in advanced
Matt

not to go off topic but do you really need a heat shield? Just another piece that will fall off or get caught on clothing etc.

Matt,

I own an 870 with a Hogue forend.
I run it with an ATI universal heatshield (the one without GR sights) and haven't had an issue yet. But it took some modifying to get it right...

Had to trim some of the forend down to minimize friction.
I had no problems taking a dremel to the Hogue, but then again, my guns aren't safe queens, so a few cosmetic "blems" are far from a concern to me... Others may find themselves less inclined to "butcher" their forend.

Also had to find a secondary method of retention due to the fact that the shield may get loose after a few hundred shells... A lil bit of LocTite will help.
I sorted the issue out permanently by simply placing my magazine clamp right after the shield's own clamp: problem solved.
The latter helps to serve two purposes:
1) it secures the shield properly, as well as providing support to the mag extension
2) it ensures that both the shields' clamp & mag clamp get secured at the same exact spot on the barrel everytime, keeping the POI consistent.

ATI makes a decent shield, but try scoring a Mossberg one if at all possible.
I've been told that Mossy shield are the best ones to be had.

As far as snagging clothing: I fail to see why it would do so. Especially if the shotgun is carried & deployed properly.

As far as added weight is concerned: I've yet to notice it.

A lotta people despise heatshields on (other peoples'...) shotguns for reasons unknown to me. Every argument I've heard against them has yet to ring true to my ears...

I like my shield; keeps my fingers intact in the event that I inadvertently touch the barrel after a good session on the line (and no, I don't flip the gun over to load...).
Plus, it looks pretty sweet too =)

GhOsT...
