so I found a buyer for my Mossberg 88. on the same day, my new 590A1(thanks Randy!) showed up from the mail gentleman. gonna take it out tomorrow for a few boxes of double-aught. while dry firing, it feels like the gun has a pretty heavy trigger pull, akin to my stock 10/22. strongly doubting there is a timney drop-in trigger for a 590A1 haha...but have other people had this experience? did you cope or overcome? the action seems stiff, but the gun is brand-spankin-new. to be expected I figure. I think I need to shoot it...

The 590A1 has a double trigger spring as a fail safe. I've heard folks removing one of the trigger springs to lighten it up. It'll smooth out after a couple hundred rounds. It doesn't bother me 'cause I'm not trying to lay down a 1/2" MOA group with it and don't mind the heavy trigger in a shotty.

The trigger is the heaviest I've ever pulled on any gun.... not the end of the world, and it does loosen up a bit after many many trigger presses.

The heavy pull is my only gripe, but as Trinimon said, there is a fix out there if you want. There is a youtube vid I saw that showed how to remove the smaller of the two springs. I didn't bother as of yet, but I may one day.

Other than that, good gun!
Dead nuts reliable with the dual extractors. Just make sure you give it a sharp pump all the way back. The only fte I saw was when a noob slid it back slowly. Pump it like you mean it, and the thing works like a mule.

I lightly greased all of the parts that showed finish wear after shooting it a bit, and that smoothed the action out quite a bit.

thanks for the replies gents. its strange, when I am pacticing cycling dummy rounds and working on my trigger pull, I constantly remark to myself how heavy the trigger is. and yet, both times I've fired it at the range, I barely notice the heavy trigger. I am concentrating more on holding steady and preparing to accept the recoil, which is substantial with the magnum 00 buckshot. let a group of rental shooters at the CSC today try some slugs. aside from the 9mm glock they were taking turns with, the shotgun was the only other gun anyone from the group had ever shot. found out they are all cooks at Joey Barlow here in town. got myself a free meal and drinks next time I go in!

its safe to assume the removal of material from the spring requires removing and disassembly of the trigger group. how hard is it to put back together? is what I am wary of. I think I will leave the trigger as-is. thanks for the replies fella's!
