Heavy Duty S&W...

I dont have any S&W in 38 spl HD I do have a 1915 S&W in 455 eley. I think the ones built in 45acp were called the M&P's They were the production model after the triple lock, more to the point I have about 500 rounds of ammo and the history of the gun, It was carred by a Warden in Jasper National when he patrolled at Maligne Lake ( Grizzly country) his son also carried it during his service in the Park. It is stamped NP on the bottom of the butt Ser No is 15###. i believe they sold 75,000 to the Brits, I guess that would be where Canada got theirs. i have 3 other S&Ws in 357, a 27,28-2 and a 686 tricked for PPC with custom grips carve for me in thailand.

Hey clraiser, a lttle off topic, but I have a very nice framed picture of Maligne Lake, that in the early 1980s took second prize in an Alberta outdoors photo contest.
Awesome country there, hell you are making me miss Alberta too much! drat..

Back on track, neat gun of yours cool history too!
Nice collection of Smiths there fellow CGN. I too have more, a 629 DX Classic in the valued 5 inch full underlug & a Brazilian contract M1937 in 45 ACP as well. The 45 is surprizingly accurate for its age. I shoot various loads in my 44, light specials and 240 gn jacketed.

I have two more DA revolvers, a Model 44 Dan Wesson with an eight inch barrel that is most comfortable will any full house load, and an older Colt Model 3-5-7 that due to its superior sights is used very frequently at the indoor range with mostly 38 special of course.

Cheers.....:)

Well, I guess I have the much newer spawn of the 38 Spl HD, a Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman 4", mine falls into the '61 to '68 window with the diamond magna grips with matching serial numbers on them. It is not like new but has honest wear for a "newer" revolver of 40+ years old and it has the great overall look of a classic sixgun. Of course as a fan of S&W wheelguns I also have the most heavy duty, the X framed 500 S&W, it is a beast but still fun to shoot a few rounds through and since I load my own gas checked bullets it is not that expensive to shoot either.:D

I too have only owned the later iteration of heavy frame Smiths. I have had several M28 Highway Patrolman. In both 6 inch and 4 inch, bought in the early 80's.

Nice guns, virtually indestructible, and the usual nice Smith DA, and great SA trigger pulls.

Won a few Police competitions with them in the UK, up against some pretty good opposition armed with PPC specials.

I also have a 5" 45acp Mod 25. Love it. And of course I have my Colt '357' circa 1957 (or 1958). Super accurate, great SA, but inferior DA to the Smiths.

Looked at DA Rugers once. Just looked. (Actually bought a Vaquero, too. Hated it.) I find Rugers a bit 'agricultural'.

I am always in the market for a nice Smith, and would particularly like a Mod 29 in 4". (But I'm not 12/6)(What an idiotic law !) And a nice little K22. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.

I have seen and used other makes, Llama, Taurus and the like, but they just don't push my buttons.
