Heavy plex reticle

I've got the heavy (heavy!) Bushnell firefly reticle in a 3200 3x9-50, on my 'dawn and dusk' rifle. It's really too thick for range work, but in low light it's freakin' magic.

The Leupold heavy duplex is quite nice too, but really it's about what you prefer and what makes you feel confident. If that heavy reticle worries you now, it'll worry you twice as much in the field.

that's just it, i may be worrying for nothing ? I have to look thru it out in the bush w/ crosshairs on a moose or deer to see actual effect.

I think the firefly ones aren't too bad, these ones are even a bit thicker, i think. I did pick them up quicker when lifted the scope into position, which is a good thing. If zoomed into 10x, maybe o.k., if at 3x maybe they cover too much of your target ?

I just get more confused. They should have a mini forrest in the back, fake anilmals to go a check it out.

I finally picked up the Bar in .300 win mag. :dancingbanana:

after going crazy trying to figure out what scope & reticle,

I decided to not bother w/ the illuminated reticle of some kind (would have been nice) and I bought the Leupold VX11 - 3 x 9 - 40mm.

simple but quality lenses !

I'll have it mounted any day now & I'll post a pic of them both together, happily for ever .

I'll be at EESA for an IPSC match sunday & I'm bringing it to sight it in & try a few shots out ot 300 yards.

Colt45gunner,
The BAR tends to be very rough on scopes, what with the action slamming back and forth. The Leupold probably has the best chance of surviving, so I would say you've made an excellent, cost effective choice. I eventually put a Vari-X 111 2.5-8 on my Belgian Grade 11 30-06 after it went through lesser brands like a derranged wolverine. A buddy had similar luck with a BAR in .300, but cured it with a Loopie fixed 4x.

the VX-111 2.5 - 8 was suggested to me, but opted to stick under $500,
even though originally, $800 was a possibility. I had to limit my shallow budget.
Thanx for the confirmation on the right choice

I saw an ad yesterday that Zeiss dealers were putting some big sale on their 3-9x40 conquests..$399....thought it might just be in the states but Bass pro shop in ontario has the sale. Nice price.

thanx, but a bit too late.

I realize the original poster has already made his decision and purchase, but I'll post my opinion for the benefit of others who may read this thread.

When I received my mueller mildot 8.5-25 I was a bit shocked at how thick the crosshairs were, (I know, for the original purpose of the mildot they are appropriate) but after trying it out in low light I was astounded at how easy it is to aim with, even by moonlight.

It took a little getting used to on my first trip to the range, but it contributes to sub moa groups and has never given me a problem when sighting on a coyote or deer.

For strictly paper I'd go with something smaller, but for hunting it's great.
