Hi,

This should have gone out a while ago. I apologize to the match directors. Anyone reading the Black Powder Cartridge News will find that the last issue has old contact information for the match directors. Please use the flyer in this link. If you have any trouble at all, just send me (gunlaker) a PM and I will get you in touch with them.

You can find the match flyer for the 2016 Heffley Creek match here:

It is an excellent match in a beautiful location. You won't find a better bunch of people to shoot with anywhere. If you are anywhere near B.C. and have been sitting on the fence, you should give this a try. In addition to the silhouette range we have gongs to 800m ( about 900 yards for those who don't speak metric :).

Does not matter how big the targets are, some of the shooters dress up in 18th and 19 century outfits and undertake a persona straight out of the history books. This shoot is not only a hoot but very educational as well because it gives you an opportunity to see living history at the various campsites. No plastic allowed, no modern implements are allowed in the reinactor camp sights. You might see characters straight out of the war between the states dressed in both Union and Confederate uniforms. There inevitably will be some character straight out of the late 18th century dressed as a mountain man fir trapper. These individuals go to great lengths to be accurate in their dress and the firearms that they carry. From looking at your avatar it would seem that you would fit right in the late to mid 19 century in Dodge city.

This looks like fun.

Looking t the distances involved and considering the equipment I have to wonder how big are the targets?

John

John I'm sorry about missing your post. I haven't looked back at this thread since I posted. The silhouettes are all around 2 minutes of angle high, and they are generally a little wider than long. The chickens at 200m are most difficult as they are shot offhand. The turkeys are the hardest of the others. Pigs are pretty easy, and I've generally had good luck with the rams.

Even if you have never shot this far before, you'll find it pretty easy to get on target.

The long range gongs are pretty big, but get more difficult as you get further. The 500m gong is shot offhand and is a 36" square. If I remember correctly the 600m gong is a 48" circle, the 700m is 60", and the 800m is 72". The hardest is the 800m as the slightest wind will blow you off target, and it's high up a hill so you are shooting at a funny angle.

If you are interested you should definitely sign up to give it a try. These rifles are fun, but they are really fun when you are shooting far away. The rams are interesting because the time of flight is 1.5 seconds for the bullet, and another 1.5 seconds or so for the sound to get bck to you. When you shoot there is a long pause after the rifle goes out, you see the ram fall off the rail, and then later you hear the church bell like sound of the bullet impacting the ram. It's pretty cool.

Chris.
