I've been a bit of a lurker for a bit, benefitting from the knowledgable people of Canada's gun culture.
I did a bit of shooting .22's as a kid, of course loving every shot.
I recently got the itch to do some shooting after moving across the country to the wild west from Ottawa. Visiting the West Edmonton mall and seeing the shooting range was all it took to remind me of how much fun I used to have. I almost spent a whole lot of money to have some fun, but my inner-voice was telling me to put the money into getting lisenced instead.
My girlfriend also showed interest in learning about firearms, which was contrary to her original position of "guns are dangerous/no guns in the house". She immediatley wanted to sign up for the PAL/RPAL after I told her I signed myself up. So, being the generous and loving boyfriend I am, I bought her a new 10/22 Compact for her birthday which was a couple weeks after receiving our permits. Even before buying myself a gun. Yes, it was very difficult. A week later I bought a Mini-14 Ranch, I just couldn't resist any longer. They make a great "his and her" pair of rifles for plinking and challenging ourselves.
