I'm an old ag type whose first career was 15 years in P. Engineering with the last 15 years spent as an independent financial services type (CFP), with my own company. My wife and I rented out our farm 10 years ago.

I recently learned about this site from a guy at a sporting goods store. Don't know how I missed it all these years. Have read a couple of threads so far, will read more. Looks like a polite crowd here for the most part, which I appreciate.

I've been hunting for over 35 years now and have used a variety of guns over that time. Presently using an M1 that may appear in the exchange section here. My eyes need a scope these days, and the Garand's heavy enough without.

The gun cabinet at the old ponderosa has a few rarities alongside the newer models and in recent years I've been researching a few of them... Ross, Vetterli, Mauser, Winchester 1895, etc. If I can figure out how to post pictures maybe I'll post a few visuals and ask for more info.

I'm not a firearm designer, but I've seen and learned a few things over the years and may add a comment or two.
Ie, I've come to think of the 6.5 to 7mm calibres as ideal all around calibres, particularly since the newer bullet tech has come along, so I do have some bias... but I'll not be alone in that, I'm sure... :)

well... that too!
A burr oak is also sometimes called scrub oak and it grows in dry areas in the prairies, where I mostly go hunting. Slow to grow, rough bark, not too tall, but a very heavy sturdy wood. Good for stoking the wood stove for all night.
What I lean on a lot waiting for deer to come for the acorns.

Welcome to our community. I agree that most 'Nutz are polite, but there are a few exception in every crowd. If you get set upon by any of them here, don't put up with it - we don't need petty squabbles getting in the way of our new-found political strength.

Please do post some pics and info on your unusual guns. The historical stuff is always interesting.
