Hi,

I would like to introduce myself.

I'm 31 and I'm from Brazil, Rio de Janeiro. Right now part of my family lives in the USA (Indiana), Toulouse (France) and here in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. I can speak french, english and of course portuguese.

I come from a military family. My father, grandfather, Uncle etc were from the Brazilian Air Force. Because of this I started to shoot when I was a kid. But I became a lawyer!

I'll be arriving in Montréal QC in june after me and my wife received the Canadian Immigration visa from the skilled worker program.

Because I'm leaving Brazil I had to sell all my guns and cancel my Brazilian Gun Permit. I used to have:

- IMBEL Pistol .380ACP customized for IPSC
- Glock 19
- CBC Nylon 66 22LR
- Bereta 950 .25ACP
- Taurus revolver .32S&W

It was really sad to sell all my guns.

I love to shoot and of course I started to search for information on the internet about Laws and Guns in Canada and one of the links brough me here.

I hope I can soon become a member of a range field or club in Canada to start the sport again.

I have friends in the USA in KY and TN and sometimes I go there to be able to shoot some nice caliber. My mother in IN (USA) has a Glock .40S&W and when I'm visiting her, we always go to the range to spend some time.

I think that's all. Sorry for my english, but I'll be doing my best to writte correctly.

I would like to meet some of the canadian shooter in Montréal.

I wish to visit all Canada. I saw very nice pictures from everywhere, Banff is AMAZING.

Ah, after shooting, snowboarding is my second loved sport.

Congratulation for this Forum, you guys have very usefull information.

Right now I'm here:

Take care,

Welcome to Canada. Your English is fine ..relax. Take a look at CANADIAN SHOOTING SPORTS ASSOCIATION web sight for firearms info. You may once you have landed here if your mother is now American apply for US citizenship check USA INS web page. With NAFTA certain jobs are in high demand re I believe re green card - Lawyer is one of them in the US. In the states at least for now the 2nd amendment protects your right to keep and bear arms. Here we are in a constant battle to keep property rights re firearms. As you have the internet ,search out the the free area JUSTICE DEPARTMENT CANADA, RE FIREARMS ACT CANADA and Criminal Code re Firearms info.
You will or will not like Quebec winters. Have friends from Colombia--they had to go back to Colombia for a few weeks re the snow and cold. Needed a sun fix to get warm. Take care.

Welcome to Canada. Out West, you will find the gun ranges run by chapters of the various Provincial Wildlife Federations or Fish & Game Leagues.

Nice picture from your balcony.

Hi. You wouldn't have been allowed to bring the .25 or .32 in anyway. They're both prohibited here.
Go here for a synopsis of our stupid laws and what you have to do to shoot here. The firearms laws are Federal, but are administered by the Provinces. Some, like Ontario and Quebec, are making a lot of regulations that do nothing but harrass law abiding gun owners. On the other hand, you won't have to wait for your Landed Immigrant papers to do the courses and pass the tests.

Thanks guys for the welcome and information.

Maybe the Law in Canada is not helping our sport but you can be sure that in Brazil the Law is worst. They are doing everything to BAN gun. It's a long story... honest citizen can't have gun, but druglords have everything you can image.

One of the reason to be leaving Brazil is because of the violence. One time I had a gun pointed to my head. Fortunately the criminal only took my money and not my life.

Anyway, I'll take a look at all the information about canadian Law and hope to find some of you in an range one day!

see you.

Hello there,
When you come to montreal you might want to check out:
Club de tir montréal (also called CRAFM)
Club de tir ville Saint pierre
I go to an outdoor club called ACPL in napierville.

Fist you need to get your PAL liscence and then the RPAL liscence to own pistols and rstricted rifles.

Welcome to Canada

Welcome, it sounds like you are making a good choice getting out of Brazil, but it sure is beautiful there. You are in for quite the shock come winter, but you will get used to it! Get your PAL and Rpal and you can start your collection again!

Rogers,

Yes, Rio de Janeiro is a very nice city, BUT (there is always a but) the violence is getting closer to me and my family... :(

AND one .380ACP bullet from CBC (Magtech) cost almost R$4,50 (Brazilain currency) this means CAD$ 2.8 each.

Welcome to Canada. If you make it to Toronto, the Portugese language is fairly common here. Lots of Central and South American folks are making Toronto their new home. It's a half-day drive from Montreal. It's more business-oriented, and some say less fun. But, Toronto is a great place to bring up kids. Then, again, about Montreal: if New York and Paris had a child, that child would be Montreal.

Guys,

Thank you very much for these words.

Is it really very nice to be welcome in Canada. I'm sure that I'll love to live there.

We have some friends in Toronto and they like the city. Well, I'll have time to visit Canada from Montréal to Vancouver and from the USA border to the North! :D

Can't wait to be in Canada. ;)
