New member here as of yesterday and have been reading a ton of your threads. Wow what a resource of knowledge!. Almost like winning a proline sport ticket. It is great to be able to ask questions and not be sneered at as a "end of the worlder"' when to my mind , the questions ,while naive aren't ignorant. Most of my friends aren't comfortable with firearms, and the ones that have had service history are more than a little arrogant. My bad luck I guess. AaanyHooo...
1st question: sks for deer hunting?. currently I,m using .303, intend to
purchase norinco m-14. Like the semi auto.
2nd: Alternative tactical stock and pistol grip for norinco m14 that doesn't cost $650 as the Sage system does.

Welcome aboard!

Yes - you can harvest a deer with an SKS. Don't use FMJ Surplus though - a lead tipped 'soft point' bullet will do the trick. Personally, I would limit shots to 150yards MAX. But it can (and has) been done by guys on this site. Bullet placement is key when using a rather 'weak' round like 7.62x39.

2nd question - 'Tactical' stock for M14. There are no real cheap options. A modified USGI fiberglass one with a pistol grip can be bought sometimes on here for around $200. There are also some Sage 'clones' floating about. I'm sure if you post the question in the Battle Rifles forum, you'd get an answer ASAP.

I was in the same boat as you and didn't want to throw away $700 for a tactical stock. Luckily I found this website http://www.m14-m1aheaven.com/ and bought one of Kenneth's stocks. I paid $370 shipped but had to pick it up in the States (I live near the boarder). I regularly talk to Kenneth and we have become friends, he is a real stand-up guy. He recently got his import license, so I believe he will now ship to Canada. I have a review of my stock on the forum on his site, as well as pics, but here they are anyway:

I am very happy with my stock. It is handmade by Kenneth and very robust, it does require a little fitting but I explained it all in my review on his site....hope this helps you out!

Thank you. Your rifle is exactly what I had imagined for myself. The end is in sight. When mine is complete I will send you a pic.
