Hello from Eastern Ontario!

Just a quick note to say thanks to all the participants and admins on this excellent resource. I'm getting back into the sport after a 20 year absence from shooting on my high school rifle team. [I expect there are no more rifle teams in high schools post-Columbine :-( ]

I've done quite a lot of reading and am considering challenging the CFSC/CRFSC tests without benefit of formal instruction since I'm scoring quite well on the online tests. I'd appreciate any comments on the wisdom of this.

I have the opportunity to go to Vegas on business and was considering taking a Front Sight course instead of the Canadian courses - has anyone here taken a FS course?

First gun purchases are likely to be a Sig P226 9mm and a Remington 700.

All the best,

DrX

Those have effectively been eliminated long before that sad incident.

I'd be happy to help via IM etc.

Hmm Nope can't say I have... Mil training is a lil diff.

1st choice.. not bad.. though I'm more partial to a Beretta 92 or Taurus 92.. :)

Maybe when I am down visiting the in-laws we can get together @ local range there. (I've met a few others in that area on this site).

Thumbs up!

A fine choice in firearms ...that Sig feels bloody good in my hand .. if Sig makes there 1911 in 9mm I will be buying one .. Im also looking for a remington 700 VTR ... I was absent for 15 years .. now Im hooked again !

Welcome back to the fold.
We missed ya.
Come on out to the Cowboy Action Shooting match at the Kingston Frontenac range on Saturday August 28
Some of the Ottawa Valley Marauders, The Wild Turkey Posse and maybe even some of the Granby Bunch will be there.

I would suggest buying or borrowing the RCMP Canadian Firearms Safety Course manuals and read them over a couple of times, there are lots of pictures and not too many words and they cover everything you need to know.....the test is easy if you have previous experience with firearms. Pay attention to handling and storage and you are good to go...:D

So I challenged the non- and restricted exams and by some miracle scored highly on both. Joy.

I'd say that all people need to do is download the manuals and sign up at gunexams.com; I'm not sure the courses would add much (but of course I haven't taken one).

Now I have to wait for the paperwork to come back and then I can start the 28 day waiting period. :-(

Now leaning towards an M&P 9mm instead of a P226, simply for cost reasons.

Do NOT wait to send in your app! Send it in now and then fax (800-411-0622) in the test papers when they come back from the CFO. Waiting just wastes more of your time and doing it this way the 28 days starts as soon as they receive the app. Also sending it registered lets you know exactly when it arrived and that is the day the 28day count starts.
