I have just got my restricted and non-restricted licenses this month. Looking forward to hitting up the range and hunting. Looking for a 30-06, Remington 870, .40 cal. Beretta, H&K usp .40, or a baby eagle.

Welcome to CGN have you picked what range you're going to join yet? There are a few good options around the lower mainland. Hopefully I'll see you around if you ever shoot at poco or DVC Ventures.

I was thinking of joining the poco range, ive heard from a few friends that it is very good there. Im just thinking of a .40 S&W for my first pistol, wanted something with a bit more power than a 9mm. Id love a .45 acp aswell.

Adam I was thinking along the same lines as you until I visited DVC Ventures last weekend and shot the .40 and 9 mm back to back. Cost wise you may want to consider 9 mm I ended up preferring how it felt to shoot.

I havent shot any of them. To be honest i havent shot any handguns, just rifles and shotguns. Are there any that you think might be a good starter pistol for me? Both model and calibre. thank you for the suggestions

I always say get a .22 single action revolver......easy to use and learn gun safety with. I know it's not as cool as a s&w m&p in 9mm but it's a good place to start...................

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with .40 cal. They all have a different feeling when shooting it, not just felt recoil.

What kind of shooting are you looking to get into? This is also important.

First pistol, I would honestly have to say a Ruger Mark 1,2,3, or a Browning Buckmark.
.22 LR is cheap, cheap, cheap to shoot. It also afords you the funds to learn how to shoot a pistol.
My first pistol I bought was a .45 ACP 1911,. I reget it now because, it costed tons and tons of money - I didn't have at the time in learning how to shoot a pistol correctly.

If you're not into the .22LR thing, I would suggest you go to a gunshop a find a pistol that fits your hand.
Most pistols come in common cals, like Glocks, sigs, 1911's, HK, Ruger, ect..
I'm willing to go to a gunstore to help you look, if you're interested in that idea. Although I suggest against it.

Do yourself a favor and spend an afternoon/evening at DVC. It will cost ya a few bucks for sure but you can try out many handguns and calibers.

And welcome, I am also in Surrey, and a member at DVC.

I think I will check the DVC out and see what suites me best. As for the type of shooting I will be doing, I would say just leisurely target shooting at the range. Thanks for the offer to help me look at a gunstore too. I appreciate all the help

What might be cheaper for you is, if you can ask someone with a 9MM, .40, .45 cal pistols if you can meet them at their range to try them out. So long as you pay for the ammo you are using, most members would be more then willing to help you out.

DVC is a good range, but inless your a member you get hosed in ammo costs.
