hey guys

I just passed my CFSC and CRFSC yesterday, dropped the application off this morning. If it all goes well, I'll have my licence in 4-8 weeks!

I'm pretty much a newb when it comes to guns, any suggestion on a cheap first rifle? I'd probably not get a .22, I want something with a kick.

I can't even decide on a semi auto or bolt action yet. SKS is what I have in mind so far, but if y'all know a cheap bolt action milsurp rifle, I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard. If you want something with kick 303bit will do the job But why? Beat up you shoulder and teach yourself some bad habits when your learing. Anyway go talk to Victor at Italian Sporting Goods he will have some good guns to buy. In the end your going to drink the 10/22 kool-aid and end up buying one.

if you live in Surrey may I suggest something to guard against home invasions? A 12 guage pump comes to mind. :)

The 10/22 is an excellent buy for a beginer and can be jazzed up later. The SKS is nice semi-auto and cheap for a budget strapped shooter.

SKS!!!!

I bought a Yugo SKS from Marstar - the M59, no grenade launcher. Buy one - you can't go wrong. Sell it for what you paid later IF you want to sell it. Surplus ammo is priced right to start too.

No chrome barrel, corrosive ammo - makes you learn real fast. I love taking it apart and I'd bet it's way tighter than a Norinco for accuracy.

I've since got a .22 (and two 12ga, an XD 40, a .357mag S&W 586, Marlin 60, and a .308 Tikka) but while the .22 is cheap, I just love recoil - what can I say?? I won't sell my .22 but it just isn't the same. Some shooters just go for accuracy - but I'm content having shooting days that are just about the BANG.

The SKS will give you room to learn to shoot, learn to clean/respect your gun and give you excellent value.

Welcome, welcome. I would go for a bolt .22 if you are 100% new to the sport. Maybe I am just old - or my father taught me the cruel way. :)
