Hi everyone,
I've been lurking out here for a week or so, and thought it's time to introduce myself.
My wife and I moved to the Bruce Peninsula in November. We had decided long ago to retire here, then, when we became empty nesters, we thought, "Why not move now, while we're still 'young.'"
Everybody here hunts, so before the move I took the OHEP and Firearms safety courses. I've had my PAL for just over a month and have assembled my basic armoury.
.22 Cooey model 60 bolt-action repeater with tubular magazine, for small game;
12 ga. Baikal MP153 semi for ducks, geese, turkeys and upland birds;
.270 Browning BAR for deer, bear and coyotes. I put a Bushnell Trophy scope on it: 3-9x40. Just ordered flip-up covers from Cabela's this morning. One of my neighbours has a lead-sled and a good site for shooting. As soon as it warms up a bit, I'll get this sighted in.
I've also passed the restricted test, and have joined the Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen's Association in Wiarton, ON. Nice bunch of folks. I'm halfway through my ten required shoots to be accepted as a safe and responsible shooter. I'll probably add a Browning Buckmark of some flavour as a target pistol. Any opinions on a reasonably-priced tack driver in .22 semi-auto would be appreciated.
Then, if my wife hasn't cut up my credit card - or my 'man parts' - I might look into a muzzle loader to take advantage of the extra deer week.
I have to say, in three months living here, we've made more friends - people that we see regularly - than in 15 years in the city.
