Hello from the Caribbean

Hello everyone
My name is Elliott and I have been a shooter a long long time. About a year ago I was introduced to IPSC. Been hooked ever since and I learned that after so many years of owning guns I was nothing more than a gun owner. I lacked way too many skills to be called a proficient shooter.

Thats okay though. Now I got the time and I'm working on getting those skills. Along the way I even created an App for iTunes to help ppl work on their dry firing. Nice to be here.

Welcome to CGN. You will find lots of people in IPSC if you want ideas, suggestions or just to talk. Your ipod app sounds interesting. Can you tell us more about it? Whereabouts are you in the Caribbean? What are gun ownership laws like there? I am sure lots of CGN members would like to hear more from you.

Welcome to Gun Nutz. Yes, please tell us about gun laws in the Caribbeen. I hope that they are less restrictive than ours.

the laws are very strict.
There is a license and registration process. The process takes about three months to complete.
You need:
fingerprints
background checks
the will investigate and interview your neighbors
in case you pay child support you have to provide a letter from the agency saying that your account is balanced.
Not be a habitual Drunk
Not be mentally disabled
Not belong to subversive groups
Not be dishonorably discharged
Not have a history of violence
Be a US Citizen
Be 21 Years old (mind you, you can get your kids a license so they can shoot, when they turn 7, they just can not own a firearm)
100 dollars in Seals
2 2x2 fotos
You have to take a sort of safety course, another 55 dollars.
Get this: (3) Sworn Affidavits from ppl that know you, that are not relation to you, saying the the petitioner is a citizen in good standing.
a Pre Addressed envelop with the petitioner's address.
With all of that you get a firearm and ta ta tannnnn the right to buy a 50 rounds a year.
Now if you want to add to that incense, a sportsman license, then you can purchase all the ammo you want.
In order to add the sportsman licence you need to add
$25 dollars in seals
the Seal from a the federation of sports shooters, usually about 25 dollars
Belong to a club, I'm a member in two clubs, one of them is 75 a year the other is 65 a year
a letter from the club saying you are a member in good standing

Now on to carry concealed
Medical certificate
Background check
Municipal fees and a letter from your employer
Letter from child support saying you are up to date in your payments
certificate on safety course
2 2x2 fotos
250 dollars in seals
another seal for 33.00 dollars
Lawyers fee, because yes, you have to go before a judge and he will pass sentence, because it is a trial, on your petition. The lawyers fee are in 750 to 800 dollars

Oh wait I forgot, each and every time you buy ammo you have to enter a code into a computer, a secret pin number to make sure it is really you. Also, you can not buy ammo for a weapon you do not own. So if you buy a .357 and want to shoot .38 you have to buy a .38.

I have the advantage arms .22 conversion unit and had to buy a cheap 75 dollar .22 just so I could buy the ammo.

I believe thats about it.

I think Puerto Rico is about the only place in the Carribean where you can legally own a firearm, especially a handgun? Correct me on this if I am wrong, but I have heard the history of how the British Commonwealth countries there banned guns a long time ago back in the 1960s. For example Jamaica. Of course it has not stopped the problem of criminals possessing guns.

Welcome aboard and a friendly Canadian welcome to you!

Thanks, not sure on what the laws are in the caribbean. I think you are right. I lived in Jamaica for about four months but never actually talk to anyone about it. Things were hugely expensive. I imagine firearms were too.

I love that one.

Welcome.............I've been to Rosey Roads NAS a number of times

Welcome! When it comes right down to it your PR licensing laws aren't much different than Canada's.

Our carry regs are much simpler than yours though. To carry you must (A) have a job that requires you to or, (B) :

1) Be a felon

2) Don't tell the authorities

3) Carry well concealed with the knowledge that (unlike the A group) nothing of consequence will happen to you if you screw up.

Simple, isn't it :D ?

Again, "Welcome Aboard"!!
