Hey guys,

I'm living in Halifax, NS and just joined the AMA assoc here. I've always loved target shooting, and I'm in the market for a perfect starter handgun. I would like to compete someday, and was wondering if anyone on here can advise me on the type of handgun I should be trying to acquire, and moreover, the best place to buy it.

I've tried to buy a CZ SP 01 Shadow at the Army Navy store in Halifax, but I am having no luck, and they wont call me back. Any information is appreciated guys, thanks alot and nice to meet you all :)

welcome to the site from an ex maritimer from Hubbards / Chester, if you look for new handgun, the site have many good store sponsor, if your looking for used, just joined the EE.

Hello and welcome from the South Shore. If you post your question in "General Firearms Discussion" or in "Pistols and Revolvers", you'll get more responses. My two cents worth is to get a .22 to start with (unless you're already used to heavier calibers) and work up when you're good with it. Also, you'll want to address one of the Moderators for the "Equipment Exchange" and request access. You'll find lots of handguns for sale there. Enjoy the site.

Freedom Ventures' service is as good as the Army Navy's service is bad.

The friendly voice who answers the phone just happens to belong to a master class competitive shooter - and a true Subject Matter Expert - who will be able to help guide your decision.

That's my five cents.

Welcome Steve. You might talk to Sean Hansen (President of the AMA & Freedom Ventures) about choice of competitive handgun & where to buy. Very approachable guy in my experience.

ah .... Sean is biased he will try and sell you what he has :) :) . just kidding he is great to deal with and carries great products ! I have plenty of them in my safe ! Welcome and hope you enjoy the sport !

Welcome aboard and welcome to AMA. To echo some of the above, contact Sean and he should be able to help. Lots of advice here on CGN too.

If you've never owned or fired a handgun, you could do a lot worse than a Ruger Mk II .22 to start. Ammo is cheap and you'll never wear one of those pistols out. You can move up to a 9mm later. You could also start with a 9mm and there's lots of them to choose from.

Just a few thoughts. See you at the range.

welcome, you can try the centre arm a feu montreal, one of the sites sponsors for a cz sp01 they have a great deal on them.

Freedom Ventures does not sell CZ, they do sell tanfoglios and they are good people to deal with.

Welcome to CGN and the AMA. Not a lot of options for buying a CZ in town, but Sean at Freedom Ventures can help you out with STI and competion equipment. Make sure you sign up for the new member course at the AMA as the guys and gals should be able to give you lots of advice as well. If you're into target rifle give me a PM and I'll try and let you know what's going on on that front at the AMA.
