Hello from the U.S.

Welcome! Though our gun laws are more restrictive than yours, I believe that there's a lot more variation state-to-state than we have. Our gun laws are more federal, so they apply pretty much across the board, though some municipalities have special conditions. Licenseing is the same, coast-to-coast, so once you have the course under your belt, you can go anywhere. Hunting is provincially regulated, so if you intend to hunt, you'd have to see what the provincial laws are. We have resident permits and non-resident permits, so once you've established yourself in a location, talk to anyone on the site, and they'll be happy to assist. .

Welcome aboard.

Not sure why you would want to come live in Kanada?

I see you live in Maryland....not exactly the most gun friendly state!

Canada has jobs. It would not be a permanent move though if I did.

Maryland is surprisingly gun friendly in some ways and unfriendly in others. Compared to Canada's gun laws.....well, we can't compare too well.

We do not have mandatory registration (except for full auto, at the state level).
We do not have licensing of gun owners.
No permit to purchase.
No firearms certificate for ownership.
No firearms class (we have to watch a half hour video before our first handgun purchase though if we do not have a hunter safetry course card).
No gun storage laws.
No restrictions on selling most long guns to other residents face to face.
We can make our own handguns without telling the state.
No restrictions on ammo sales to adults and no recordation of sale.
No problem with sawed off shotguns, grenade launchers, silencers, missile launchers, pen guns, full auto, artillery, etc., as long as the federal tax stamps are paid.
If we have the property to do it safely, we can shoot whatever we want in most areas of the state.
No limit on how many guns that can be owned by anyone who can legally own one.
We can carry loaded handguns all day long on our own property (even outside the house).
etc.

What we have problems with are:
A seven day wait for on each of the handgun purchases and some evil black rifles.
A one purchase in 30 days limit of handguns and some evil black rifles.(unless designated as a collector which only takes a notarized one page form and is processed within a month...never expires).
No explosive ordinance (without a state license for explosives).
An "approved handgun roster" that only allows us to purchase approved guns made after 1984 (most guns are approved and it is nothing like California's where they drop test and all that.)
A twenty round magzine limit....but only on transfer, sale, reciept and purchase. We can own, possess and use whatever size was want if we bought it out of state and brought it back.
A few banned so called "assault pistols"....but if they are registered as AOW or short barreled rifles they are legal in the state again ;)
And the last but most important, very difficult for the average citizen to get a permit to open or conceal carry a handgun in public in MD (which is ironic because right across the river in Virginia and in tow or three other surounding states one can carry openly without a permit).

Thanks for the info on gun laws in MD.

Yes, I would say your last point regarding concealed/open carry is the BIG ONE.

Well, hope you enjoy your stay in our lefty land here and make some $$.

By the way, I'm always happy to see a fellow gun owner come here rather than some lefty pinko gun grabbing type.
