Just quite new to the sport of shooting, went out a few time with my buddies plinking gophers with an old early 1900's pump .22lr, had a blast and decided to go for my PAL. Once i had my papers sent away i started researching my options as a good first gun i decided i wanted a 22-250 of some sort, i just didnt know what make/model, or even what was availible. After about a month of reading on here and other sites i figured either a savage or remington based on price/quality/reviews. Just a few days ago i went down to puds in bashaw and checked out the remmington and savage models he had there in 22-250 my options were the remington 700 sps varmint for about 700ish which i would then have to buy rings and scope for, or a savage model 10xp which was mossey oak camo and had a 4-12x40 simmons already mounted and was also camo for a little over 850 including 40 rounds. I went with the savage, took it back to my dads farm and set up a box at about 75-100 yards so i could try this thing out and get it half decently sighted in. Now i havent shot many rifles yet (m14, blr 450, sks,10/22) but i was quite inpressed with my buy, quite liked the accutrigger after a bit of tweaking i was able to shoot through the cap of a bottle at the end of the range. I cant wait to get out and do some gopher control with it, as well as tag along with some friends that hunt coyotes, just basically get as much practice as possble.

thank you for reading my intro

Hello and welcome. It sounds like you've begun with all the right tools. I used to live in the US Northwest, and used an SKS for coyote control. Very nice rifle. Good hunting.

Welcome, The first rifle I bought just for gophers and the like was a 22-250 as well. Except I bought a No.1 V, that turn out to be a fairly accurate rifle! A good friend of mine lives out your way & uses everything from 22, 222, 223, 250-3000 & 22-250. Enjoy the new rifle & I know your area; it's lousy with gophers, so blast away!
