Nice Izzy. Is that a really dark laminate, or a hardwood with a cross bolt added at refurb? Grain screams laminate, but the colour doesn't.

I just noticed it's an Izhevsk, why would you spend the extra money over a Tula if you're just going to bubba it? A Tula would be $80-100 cheaper.

Wow, tough crowd, I too am a fan of keeping them relatively stock but hey, to each his own, I have heard rumours that they do not shoot as well with the Bayo off so let us know, I would also like to try a peep sight! I do plan some time this winter to bed the reciever of my 54 if it is possible, not sure if it will help because sure cannot free float the barrel!:0) good luck and let us know how it shoots!

I'd have to grow an extra pair of arms to face palm enough. Leave that gun alone and buy a cheaper shooter to bubba.

Cripes I hope this is a joke.

I have mine in a tactical stock but it is still perfectly original because the original stock is in the closet and will always be available. Taking the bayo off is not a good idea. It looks good, I put a cut in my after market stock in order to keep it on.

Nothing has been permenantly altered?!? One screw pulled and the same with the peep, on or off with no ill effects to the originality of it.... End of the day I want something that is reasonably accurate and handy and in a half hour it can be like "as issued"....

It's yours. Make it yours and use it. Don't worry about the sks collectors.

stick mine in the ground to hold it up for the boiling water part of the cleaning process. I`m sure it has more uses. ( my 8 yr old thought it was for stabbing deer if you only wound it while hunting)

this reason alone is good enough to keep it on, this makes things much, much easier to clean, not to mention the bayo's are waaaaay cool!!! by the way clever 8yr old!! also claims to shoot better with the bayo out. i have never tried both ways to see for sure.

Agreed. While I prefer my sks's basically stock, do what you want with it. Especially if it's bolt on parts, any mod that isn't a permanent one is a non issue. I just put a scout mount and a red dot on my 1950 Tula, easy to put back to irons if I don't like it.

nice looking sks! i did a double take on the location marking. wait a minute... that's not like mine... must be the more rare version! lovely stock btw. had a bit of trouble figuring out which type of stock it is. but i think it's a laminate right? the butt part looks laminate anyway. personally, i'd have left the bayonet on it, but to each their own. I think i read that it was designed to be shot with the bayo extended though. ie the sights were setup with that configuration in mind. nothing you can't tweak with the adjustment tool though i'd imagine.

imo, the things you did so far don't permanently alter the original sks. so no foul :p how much was it if you don't mind me asking?

make sure you clean it after every use!
