Greetings from a little brother from south of the border! I was directed to your fine forums by a member who is on another forum I frequent. Though I am American I am a gun nut and actually am in need of help.

I am trying to research information on my Great Grandfather whom served in the Canadian Army during WWI... the reason why, America was dragging it's feet in joining the War and he wanted to fight!

What would be the first steps for a Yank to try to get information on his Great-Grandad's service in the Canadian Army during the Great War?

Thanks all,
Crash

Welcome to the site. Quite a few American members here.
I would think any info that is available would be from the "National Archives of Canada".

I don't know how being an American citizen will play in your G-grandfathers records, but he must have signed up with a Canadian unit so you may find something. There is only a certain amount made public for this type of info (service personell records etc) and a time line of many years before records being made public, but it is the best resource I think.
Good luck in your search.

WOW!
thankyou Yoki, from the link I found his enlistment papers:
Name: CAILLIER, ARTHUR
Rank: SPR
Regimental number(s): 2503504
Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 1373 - 53
Date of Birth: 19/01/1897
Attestation paper: Front of form - Back of form

would the Regimental numbers and Reference be just the storage information unrelated to actual unit?

Holy CRAP that was easy !! Very glad you found what you were looking for and so quickly. I've used that reference for research on a police matter and it was successful, but certainly not in one day.

I'm not that familiar with how the military "numbered" their people, but I assume it is similar to some police forces like the RCMP so the regimental number would be your great grandfathers actual enlistment number or I.D.
The reference number I assume is to do with the archived info.
