Guys, Exciting news, Ive been singled out by a New Australian Bullet maker to test out some of Hes Bullets, unfortunately no .358 so im Testing some .30 Cal 215gr Flat Base projectiles in coming weeks!!

He said he has Ran some infront of Varget (2208), Which happens to be what I have a big Tub of!

Ive mentioned it outs of a T3 an he believes it will be no problem and should Stabilize etc etc. (Do you believe they will stablise in T3 lite)

Where would you start!?

Thanks

WL

You'll find 215's are too long for the .308. However, Hodgdon lists data for a 208 A-Max that might do as a starting place. You'll still have an OAL issue though. Got a .30-06? Or single shot .308?

What's the twist rate on your barrel? 208s in my 308 don't actually shot too bad, with a 12 twist. The hornady book was the only one I had with load data for it as mentioned above.

208 AMAX's stabilize in my Rem 700 with 12" twist but I've never gotten them to shoot well. Best was 2MoA.
I shoot mostly 168gr BTHP's or AMAX's and my COAL is too long to fit in the magazine or feed properly. Since they are only bench rounds, not something I'd use hunting, single feeding is the norm for me. The COAL I'm using is 2.915" which is the longest my chamber/throat will allow (give or take; I'm maybe 5-10 thou off the lands).

Rate of twist and bullet stability depend more on bullet length than bullet weight. A heavy, conventional round-nose design may need less twist than a light, long for weight, spitzer design ( i.e. Barnes ttsx. ).

I tried some Hornady 220 gr. RN in my .308, and almost made it up to 2200 fps using RL 15, that's with an 18 1/2" barrel. I can't really give you a definitive verdict on accuracy, since I only tried a few rounds to see what it would do.

I would use a starting load for 200grs. and cut back a couple of grains on the charge weight. Nothing to lose by trying, really.

Cheers guys, The Twist rate is 1:11 an at present don't know any details of the Projectile but will be turning up in the mail in coming days. il have them out for photos for sure. an measure a length etc. (he also makes a Ultra low drag 215gr .30cal with reb boat tail) for 300mags not something im interested in but thought of trying the 215gr hunting round on a Sambar deer in reasonable ranges.

Sunray- I hear you, love the little case of the 308 but for something with potential to be real long it may not add up!
Lutnit- im using a 308 magazine in the T3 which limits COAL to around 2.830 I believe, I should be able to get ahold of a 30-06/270 magazine an depending on throat will report back on a OAL on where the pill will hit rifling.

9.3 mauser- my thoughts exactly. Nothing to lose I they don't Stabilise at 200m, although the Bloke says im right on the 60,000psi SAAMI spec for the 308 so he said err on the side of caution.
I'll PM you about them 220s an have a chat in due time.
ADI do list a 208Amax load, its
208 GR. HDY A-MAX AR2208 0.308" 2.820" min 38.1gr 2260fps 49400 psi max 41.5gr C 2420fps 59500 psi

So do you rekon start at around 36gr?

I'm also going to be sent some 150gr an 165gr projectiles which is right up my alley an look forward to using them. the 215s will be interesting though.

Thanks!

WL
