Hey all

I've got a question for some of your pro's as I am very new to reloading.

I recently bought a Savage 10 CFP HS Precision and want to load some 178gr A-Max with it. The fella I got it from says that **.* gr of Varget worked for him but I'm having a hard time finding it. I got some load data from him so I loaded up some 155gr Sierra MK with IMR 4895. I then asked him about using the same for the 178's and he suggested a slower powder.

Do any of you know what would be a good replacement for Varget??? I've checked Hodgson's web site (cartridge load data) and there is nothing for 178 gr bullets.

Yep H4895 is as close as you will get to varget from Hodgdon, I have had good luck with IMR 4895 and IMR 4064 as well.

I could never get RL-15 to work day in or day out in my 308s, the temperature effect caused a major velocity difference in my barrels

If it was a shot barrel I would suggest trying BLC-2

What problems have you had with BL-(C) 2 Jason? I've used a military equivalent for years with no issues, but I'm curious. - dan.

None with my rifle at all , I just find BLC2 shoots better out of a short barrel.

Drives tacs with my 308 Tik tak 46.0 grains....20 incher

I love the stuff.

But in the 26 inch barrels Varget seems to give me better STD.

Regards
