I have a integral rail NEA upper fore stock on my 858 . I recall reading that they were very tight and some what difficult to put on . Mine has never been off and wasn't installed by me , and I can't get it off . I can easily pull the pin and have even tried prying with a screw driver and it won't lift . Is there a trick to this that i'm unaware off ? Help .

Sounds like it's very tight or corroded. Been shooting any corrosive surplus?

I had one on a rifle here a while ago and it was so tight I put a vertical foregrip on the rail as close to rear sight as possible and gave it a whack with a rubber mallet. Or something like a Magpul RSA or something that sticks out off the side and tap it with a mallet.
As long as that rear pin is out. I have seen them be tight too if there's a set screw in that hole on the top at the front.

Same thing happened to my NEA upper handguard (forestock, scout mount, etc).

Initially the pin was very difficult to remove but now it's not a problem. However, a large flathead is required to get it off. First I need to pry a bit between the plastic lower handguard to allow clearance for the screwdriver between the rear of the NEA upper handguard and the ledge on the rifle below the handguard pin. It takes some elbow grease but the upper handguard is solid for now. Will have to see if it maintains zero this week.

Is the pin on the NEA upper handguard supposed to be captured like the OEM handguard? Mine isn't, which irks me a bit.

The pin actually pops completely out with hardly any pressure. Mount is solid but it's almost at the point where it seems like the pin would just fall out. Pretty sure that isn't normal.

I'm pretty rigorous in examining parts when I receive them and I didn't notice anything like that. I will have to talk to NEA or the dealer I bought from to source a replacement detente ball/spring.
