My ideal scope is a 2.5-10X42 (tho 40,44 would be fine) reticle is German #4, scope has side focus parallax adjustment, and ED/hd glass, 1" or 30mm tube I don't care. Going on a lightweight 243, so weight is a consideration.

I've looked high and low and can't find this magnification, reticle and glass combo.
So resourceful people of the cgn point me in the right direction.

Schmidt & Bender summit 2.5-10x40 hits the mark on many points. No PA adjustment but I wouldnt want that feature on a scope like this anyway.

I had a very similar set of criteria which included side focus down to 25m for rimfire use. The only scope I found that met all my criteria (though it's a little on the heavy side @19oz.) was the Nightforce NXS 2.5-10X42 with the IHR reticle.

edit: Taking into account the $1000 cap, Vortex and Nikon both make scopes that come close to (but not exactly) meeting your requirements:

I picked my Leica 2.5-10x42 on the ee here for I think 800, maybe 750, can't remember. It does not have the side focus your after but it complements my 22-250 nicely whether shoting gophers or calling coyotes. The glass is amazing and AP is not missed at all.
