Hello again. I made of post asking about bipods and here I am again in need of assistance.
I bought my first rifle a few weeks ago (browning x-bolt 2 in 30-06 caliber) and recently saved enough to get a scope (Leupold freedom VX 4x12 50mm).

I am trying to the the correct mount rings to install the scope but all the ones I found at the store didn't seem to fit. Like the tube lenght of the scope is not long enough to install the base ring. Here os a photo to give you an idea.
Is it just me who doesn't know which base rings to get ? Does it mean I have to get a rail ? (I am really trying to avoir this to clear out the ejection chamber as clear as possible).

Anybody knows what I need exactly ? Let me know, thanks again!

I wonder if offset rings would be available for that model of browning? A pic rail would be the cheapest and I guess when things are where you want it you could grind away some material of the pic rail to open it up a bit?!?!

What is the tube diameter? Where are you located? There is a chance I may have exactly what you need with the correct ceracoat finish.
You can go to the U.S. Browning website, select the shop category, select rings and bases. There are quick select options as well as helpful instructions. Also there is a number you can call. Cheers
I think you may have to get a xbolt long action pic rail based on your picture. What cartridge is the rifle chambered in?

Quick question...

When you were at the store, did you try reversing one OR both of the ring(s) 180 degrees to try and fit within the given tube length?

I can't see why a 1" medium height set of rings for a Browning x-bolt 2 would not work with the Leupold freedom VX 4x12 50mm which has 4.2" of eye relief at low magnification and 3.7" at high magnification...

I hear you on avoiding a rail, but if you do go that route, keep in mind that you could likely get away with lower rings as the rail will raise the scope up...

Talley makes some that should match your rifle perfectly, and you should be able to reverse them to fit your scope tube.

https://www.talleymanufacturing.com/product/browning-x-bolt-scope-mounts/ you will likely need mediums to clear that 50mm

One reason i am not a fan of large objective bell's on hunting scopes as it is hard to mount them low to the bore axis and unless you plan to add a riser it can be difficult to get a proper cheek weld.

Of course a rail and rings is also an option, but will likely cost more when you add them together than the Talley's.

Yes I tried that but the ones I had barely missed the mark by reversing them. I'm sure there are longer ones out there...

I think the diameter of the main tube is 25.4mm :

I'm in Montreal Quebec Canada.

I'm looking at them and to be honest they look alot like the ones I saw at the store :/

your scope has a very short tube length the front portion is the issue compounding the issue is the 50 mm bell not sure why h would want that but each to his own
a set of front extension ring may fix your problem or talley rings may even be a better fix

Going by the specs of that scope, it’s a 1 inch tube. Couple options that would work are Leupold rings part # 171108 for med height or part # 171109 for high. Not much stock around in Canada right now but Nechako outdoors has a set of #171108 medium heights in stock. It seems the high rings part # 171109 are popular. Another option is a one piece mount. One option is the DNZ game reaper one piece mounting system that doesn’t cover the ejection port area. For a long action rifle, distance from outside to outside of rings is 4.58 inches. Your scope spec is 4.62 inches. Will be close but should work. There’s a place that has a set of high height and medium in 1 inch rings in stock. They’re not a site sponsor so PM me if you’d like the name of the store.

I wouldn’t worry about a rail interfering with cases ejecting, most of my bolt action rifles have pic rails and they all eject as they are supposed to.

A rail will give you more range of adjustment for eye relief and general scope placement.

I’ve got an ATRS rail that I used to use on an Xbolt SS 7mm mag.
I had to cut about 1/2 off so that I could mount the scope as low as possible and move it back for correct eye relief.
Cheek weld is not perfect either

If you go to the Browning website you can answer your questions. Nobody can help you if you don't give the details of the rifle chamber and barrel type. Talley makes all the Browning mounts. You can use the Browning search engine to find the product numbers and just find a local retailer who has stock of the product you need.
Jay in post #7 gave you the best possible advise based on the info you have shared.
If you have a long action cartridge you will need a pic rail base to allow for eye relief unless your just lucky.
If you really want help. Help us by giving up some info about the rifle chamber and barrel contour. Jay knows his stuff. Cheers

My bad I was sure I mention the rifle was in 30-06. As for the barrel it says it's a fluted, sporter-weight stainless steel barrel.
I also didn't think about eye relief like many of you mentionned. Even if I do find fitting mounted rings I would have any room for manoeuvers to adjust it. So Im afraid I have to get rail... but now Im wondering, is it just me who bought the wrong scope for this rifle ???

If u want to avoid a pic rail (why?), then u likely need Talleys.

I am of the opinion u should take your rifle and optic to a shop near you and get some in-store help.

Not a cabelas or canadian tire. A gun shop. They will help you more than an on-line survey can.

Edit: When you do, tell them u want to get as low as possible without sacrificing eye relief.
