Hey guys, so I went out for our clubs informal sporting clays the other night, and now I'm hooked. I was shooting my old 11-48 sportsman with a poly choke . I did ok but I want something a little newer. I would love an O/U but I can't afford a good one so as I've read don't buy a cheap one. So I'm looking towards a semi. The two I'm really looking at are the Stoeger m2000 and the Wetherby sa-08. Could you give me some advice on the 2 please. Thanks in advance

what is your price range on a semi
the winchester sx3 is a really nice gun around 1000
but if looking a little cheaper but quality go to cabelas.com or check out a local gunshop
i bought a winchester 2400 semi used but shoots really good 400 bucks

It is hard to get excited about any of your choices. I would look for good quality used. Many of the Beretta three hundred series can be had in your price range.

I would have to agree. Browse the EE and/or go talk to some people involved with guns. I went to Walmart to get ammo, and though they didn't have what i wanted, I ended up buying a used-but-still-great Winchester SX1 Trap (Skeet, maybe, can't recall) from the guy that helped me.

if you are gonna go witha semi buy a shell catcher you will get really sick of chasing your casings. last week noone had a pump or semi it was pretty nice when it came time to wrap up/clean up

ps i'm using a baikal sxs with hammers and full/modified fixed chokes and loving it. i paid 250 for that shotgun

x5 on that suggestion.

I bought an SX-3 off the EE for $800 and then sold it a year later for the same. It was a very nice gun and I got to try it for free, so good used guns don't really cost you much money. I'm sure you can find a good gun the same way if you watch for a while. A Beretta would be a great find, or an SX-3, older 1100. Heck, you might even find a deal on an O/U that strikes your fancy. Shoot your 11-48 in the meantime and just enjoy the game!:)

There's also a pretty nice SX-1 on the EE right now. They're very nice guns for the money. I've heard of people putting 25K rounds through each year, without a hitch, since their production between 1974 and 1980. It's listed at $650 with a Skeet and Plain barrel.

or that 3 1/2" browning gold hunter that was just listed in the EE. I have two of those since new and they work better than any of the ones listed in the original post. One probally with over 20,000 rounds through it. Shoot geese with 3 1/2 and the same day skeet with 2 3/4 with no issues at all.

Very good advise here, I was just in your shoes, ended up getting a mint beretta 682 for half the price of new! That means more money for ammo....
