OK, so this year I decided to start hunting. I should receive the CORE Certificate by early next week and should have all my license and tags shortly after. I just finished adjusting my rifle and have confidence in it, BUT I have no clue about Hunting. My friends dad offered to take me out with him to show me some stuff. But I don't know what I should bring (other then my rifle and ammo of course). So Far I have on my "to get" list:

Knife-what is recommended that won't hurt the wallet to much? I like fixed blades over folders.
First aid/survival kit- What should it contain?
Bright colored flashlight.
A good pair of boots.

That's all I can think of now, obviously I need more, so, what do I need? Thanks, hopefully I will be able to post a few pics of my first deer or Elk... Hopefully:D

A solid knife is a great investment that could last a lifetime- head over to the knife subforum and do some reading there, there are several threads on beginner hunting knives.
Add a compass, food and binos, put that in a bag and you will get by. There are a million things you *could* buy that one day will seem essential, but you will be ok with this short list. GOOD LUCK.

Food and water. Maybe a 15 ft length of that cheap poly rope. I like to carry a pack of parachute cord myself. comes in real handy sometimes and doesn't take up much space in my pocket.

I bring a backpack, with fire making supplies, flashlight, compass, first aid, a little food, a bottle of water, a little rope, spare knife, and an emergency blanket (the foil ones) it doesn't weigh all that much and if you get lost, or break down or find yourself in a bad situation your at least a little prepared

The Grohmann knives are a good deal. A good quality, LED headlamp is the handiest flashlight. Army surplus rain gear. The best fitting, quality boots that you can find. A decent folding saw is useful. Rugged, water resistant pack. Decent compass. Binder twine- nylon. If it's cold and drizzly, I like the neoprene fishing gloves. Very small 1st aid kit- tweezers, band aids, gauze bandage, tape. A good multi tool.

Safe and Happy Hunting!

OK, sounds good, I got the boots, some rope, a decent skinning knife and I am looking at a more all purpose knife, good flashlight (still have to paint it a bright color) a decent first aid kit, a decent pack, I still need a compass and I might need a better jacket. I am looking at some carhartt ones. What should I get for a survival kit?

The best thing I found is to sit down with your Partner who is an old experianced hunter and talk this over . He probably has most of the gear you guys will need accept for your prsonall stuff. That way you won't double up too much.
