Hello all,

I've been reading here and there on these forums for quite a while before and after I got my PAL and recently decided to acquire a remington 700 in 308win

I was wondering what scope I should be looking into if I want to do target shooting at a 200 meters range.
Also need to know what rings to buy for it and do you need special tools to install it?

Any input is welcome,
Thank you.

Congrats on the new rifle!
A good place to start when looking for a new scope is budget. what do you want to spend. Remember, quality will often out perform magnification.
Your range @ 200.. - is that where you will start to shoot, eventually stretching the rifles legs, or where you want to end up?
The size of the ocular bell (often stated as 20-60 mm) on the scope will determine your ring height , as will your bases.

you can easily get away with a nice 3-9x40 at 200m, or a 4-12.
leupold vx 2 and 3 are solid options, redfield are solid scopes for less $ (made at Leupold factory)

another option is a bushnell 10x40. these are ~$200 and are a solid option for the .308 - many members (including myself) have or currently use them on their m14 rifles.

hope this helps, let us know what kind of $ and we can help further.

My budget would range anywhere below or around 400 $ for the scope itself.

If I remember correctly, I think there's a 3-400 meters gong at the firing range in my town but I wanna start at 100m and stretch up.

EDIT: I looked up the redfield scopes and they seems to be a great deal, thinking about getting the 3-9X40 on amazon.
Only problem is I have no clue what rings to match this with.

frontier firearms is good to deal with. I see sfrc - the ammo source, has some too.
the revolution is what I would recommend as a redfield series.
they have come up in price a little bit, but are still a viable option.

Should I get low or medium scope mount?
Since I'll be getting the scope from frontier firearms, might as well get the mounting rings at the same time. (How do you make sure the mounts will fit in a particular rifle anyway, is it standard?)

Lows
Mediums

EDIT: Called frontiers firearm and got my answer, thanks for your help na1lb0hm. I'll post an update here once I got the stuff together!

congrats,
I think you will be happy with it, as they are a great entry level scope, with solid warranty and good glass.

And when you find it's time to upgrade, you will know what you like, and dislike about scopes.

What model did you end up going with?

Got the 3X9X40 with regular 4-plex reticle from frontier firearms, also figured how to use EMT at the same time, hehehe.
