HELP! AR Barrel removal

Did you assemble it originally? Maybe someone decided to loctite the barrel in place... not the nut, but the contact points.

I would wiggle and wiggle, but if that doesn't work, your best bet would be as you described, IMHO.

Some ex-armourer must be on here to give you some advise...

I tried to whack the reciever off the barrel with a mallet, but just shredded the mallet. I put some penetrating oil on it and maybe I'll try a piece of dowling from the inside? Suggestion from ar15.com.

I will update. Thanks

I have done everything, and my barrel won't slide out. What can I do? Can I give it a whack on the plastic internal block against the chamber or would that wreck something?

I sent you an e-mail with the illustrations and step by step instructions (from the Armorer's Manual).

It should help.

They can be a bugger sometimes.

A dowel tight fitting to the bolt dimensions inserted through against the back of the barrel doesn;t sem like a bad idea to me. Get someone else to hold the upper and have at 'er with a rubber mallet.

cutting torch.........................

what? he didn't say he wanted to have it come off in one piece did he? jeeeezzzzz

whatever you do, don't try twisting it, you'll wreck the threaded extension on the upper receiver, a certain gunsmith here in BC could learn from that.........

Got it!! I don't see any damage really even the dowel came out okay. Then I spent the next hour trying to line up the freaking gas hole. The clips wouldn't line up until I stuck a piece of 1/8" plastic through the reciever gas hole. Everything functions with dummy rounds.
Now I know how to change a barrel.
The whole point was to change my upper to a fixed handle one I got in a trade. Now I have a flattop upper to build a target shooter with, if I can ever afford to.

If you hear some nut blew himself up at the Smiths Falls range, you'll know who it is!
Thanks for the help! :D

the cuts i nthe barrle nut you have to line up
tighten it up a bit more and the gas tube will line up
nexed time wack the barrle off not the upper , dont hit the upper
if you need any help let me know we can meet up maybe

Simon -- I think he was refering to the weld springs in the delta ring assembly...
Second he was not wacking the receiver -- he was bumping the barrel extension, exactly what he should have done. If you hit the barrel the only place to hit and get purchase is the front sight gas block -- not the most sturdy part, an thus not recommended...

prproulx - glad to hear it worked out for you.
