Hello

I broke this fancy screw which holds the cylinder in place.

Definitely over torqued it. I think it is called yoke screw assembly, but it is so hard to find a proper schematic, with the parts labeled, for the firearm. It has a funky spring and pin in the middle.
So my question is, what the hell is this screw called, and where can I get the part from. Also what at the correct torque settings for the screws that hold the side plate in place.

Thanks,

Looks like this 617 isn't going to survive very long in my hands. Usually though I am not this foolish.

Yes, it's the yoke screw. You have the new style, part No. 940-000-502WB at Brownells for $8 USD. Lucky that, because they no longer make the old style. Might be able to get it from S&W or Murray Charlton in Canada (or Western Gun Parts or something), but factory spare parts shipments are sloooooooow up here if it's not in stock.

Torque is not as tight as you think (okay, being silly — probably can find a manual on-line). Use proper fitting screw drivers and don't wreck those heads!

The old style needed to be filed for perfect fit (or just left if your barometer fell short of perfection). This springy centre pin style adjusts to hold in that cylinder yoke. That's what makes it an ‘assembly’ instead of just a screw.

Probably want to tighten it until the head contacts the plate, then just a skitch more; spring means it won't hold any harder if you crank it more (just crack the sleeve lol).

[EDIT — 20 foot-pounds???!?]

Like I said, I wasn't really paying attention. Plus I didn't understand quite how that screw worked. Live and learn, no chance picking it up from somewhere in canada though?
