Hi everyone, I’ve got a Browning BAR rifle which I believe is the MK2/lightweight wood(both look really similar and I’m sure whoever knows this stuff would be able to pick it out better than myself), it was manufactured in 1977, it’s caliber is a 308 Win., it’s in MINT condition, looking for any input on what it’s current value may be as I’ve got a few people interested in purchasing it, some want it for hunting and for some who want it in their collection. I can’t blame collectors wanting it because I’ve yet to see any info or videos out there with the exact rifle. I know it’s been discontinued as per the Browning website and so I’m looking for anyone out here who can possibly help out

Cheers and thanks in advance!

I’ve checked YouTube and google too
Ps. I’m trying to upload a photo so bare with me :)

Have you checked out the Browning Web Site?
They have information there to assist in determining what one has in their possession.
Then there is you tube and of course google as well.
But, of course if you could post a picture of your firearm it would also ease in determining what it is you actually own.
$750.00 is a quick sale to someone looking for a BAR.

Hey thanks so much! Found a way to post the pictures and I’ve tried to search on YouTube and google but nobody seems to have the exact same one I’ve got.

Hope the pictures help, thanks again Rob!

Did these suffer the salt wood epidemic?
$750 wood be a quicky sell, me thinks.
And I tawt the MKII's add the sqwerrly marks awn the reseaver sides?

I'd bump'er up a brown spawt oar so.

Ive got one but 30-06. It is not a Mk11. Mk11 have a bolt release on the side of receiver. I believe they were made up to about 91ish as memory recalls before a few changes were made. $750ish is about right.

Swirls are the safari. A lightweight mk11 would be the lightweight stalker with composite stock. Although there prob is, Ive never seen a mk11 wih wood other than the safari.

Well, I am far from an Expert, but I do have an opinion and sometimes it grinds one or two.
Your rifle looks to be in pretty nice shape and from the ones I have seen (BARs) of that vintage it appears to be very nice.
Dark wood and all ...not sure if they used an allow receiver back then or not.
Just done google research myself and found that bit of info.
There will be more knowledgeable folks to offer up some more definitive answers for you.

Well there are not many Belgium BAR's available. Yours indeed looks to be in pristine condition.
There are collectors who may be interested. .30-06 a common caliber.
I'd ask $1,000 and see where your offers come in...again you have a rather rare rifle there...
My Belgium .243 says hello...

Salt wood issues where earlier and of the higher grade guns, fancy wood and all.
Here is a link from Browning http://www.browning.com/news/articles/brief-history-of-the-browning-bar.html
Scoll down and you will find the sqwerrly marks awn the reseaver sides you speak of ;)
The more I look at the gun the more I think it is an 80's vintage firearm.

NHunter, that is purdy looking firearm you have there.
How does she shoot and whats it shot???

All BARs except the earlier ones were made in belgium, assembled in Portugal and there are plenty so nothing rare about Made in Belgium. My last BAR being a Longtrac was also the same. I have not seen the new ones what is stamped on the barrels for place of origin. I have not yet come across the so-called Made in Japan BARs and would not hesitate to buy if it is Miroku.

R, I have owned it for about a month.
It shoots touching groups at 100 yards.
The action, magazine, trap door, all operations smooth as butter...
Being built in '79 I expect it has shot it's fair share...

I’ve had a few of them from 243 up to 7 mm RM and worked on many more.
Yours is the original commercial BAR.
Belgian built parts, Portuguese assembled.
Very well built rifles.
Treat it well, parts are getting tough to find.
Personally, it’s value is whatever someone is willing to give.
