Was in my LGS yesterday just to check things out. Saw a used Dlask arms 1911. Got weak in the knees. Never owned but have shot tons of 1911s the last 30 years. Not sure why. Always been one of my favorite platforms. Now I've caught the fever!! I want one...if I can get the missus to say ok. So far she is saying " whatever..." which I take to be not a good sign. Working on it.
Anyways, for you pros out there. Is the Dlask used for $1200 a good deal? Feels awesome, great trigger. Also interested in the S&W custom, Remington, Kimber,Colt. Not into the SIG or Ruger. Don't like the external extractor on the SIG. Is STI any good? Saw it on Wanstalls for quite a bit of moolah. Thought they were made in the Philippines?
I want to not spend more than $1200 which is what I'm working on the wife with so more would be a deal killer for sure. No Norcs please!! What should I get?? If I get it....x fingers. Thanks guys!

STI has a couple of lines the cheapest "Spartan" is made in the Philippines is around $800 but finished and tested in U.S. the other STI products are made in the U.S. and are in the mid price range for 1911's. ($1200-$2000) approx.

The "Spartan" is a well finished, tight and good value gun.

me too, i didn't get as far as you did with my wife( no whatever, just gives me the "look")
I'm really leaning towards STI, I'm still working on it all i hear is blah blah retirement blah
blah new house blah blah priorities blah blah. i think she's giving in though

well for the price of the dlask look for yourself I dont know what model it is

about 15-20% lower is a good price imho

Hiya!
I did look on the Dlask site. The one for sale is not any of the ones pictured. Has an extended non- ambi safety. Fiber optic front sight, extended mag well, adjustable BoMar type rear sight. Extended mag release and checkered straight rear spring housing. Also has an interesting two tone finish. Almost purplish frame and blues slide. Tight as a drum. Love an all steel gun! Really tight slide stop to release when the slide is locked back on empty with the mag in. I could not release it with two hands. You have to drop it and let the slide slam on the empty chamber which I hate to do! No problem with the mag out. Must be the follower or something.

My wife just did a boo boo on her car 3 days ago. Bringing up the .45 was probably bad timing. Making her lots of coffee and doing lots of laundry for her. Trying hard!!

Are ya talking International Shooting Supplies in Sry? Problem is I'm a gun snob. If and when I get the ok to buy one, i want a made in N. America 1911. Toyota vs. Audi, that kind thing. Both good but I like the Audi. Not mikethebike Christensen Arms high end but a nice one.

all STIs are made in texas except the spartan, and even the spartan is a really good gun, especially for the price. Ranger is a pretty sweet gun and the 699 is a killer deal for it

You've got the 1911 fever....you sir are completely ####ed!

I came down with a horrible case of 1911 fever about 3 years ago....seventeen 1911's and one 2011 later (still have them all as I fear selling any will trigger the plague) and my fever still hasn't broke.

Good luck, it would be easier to get off heroin.

STI, fantastically made guns with a weak finish. Shoot them a lot because they feel great. But keep them on a fleece pad or wrapped in something soft when not in your hands.

I have no idea what it is that they use for a finish but it marks easily and wears away fast if used on rougher surfaces. Mind you when WELL worn the patina they have actually looks pretty nice. It's that time in between the first "how'd THAT get there?" moment and the well worn look that sucks.

Superb guns for shooting though. Can't say enough good things about how they feel and shoot.

What finish was on them? I hope to get an sti in hard chrome one day.

Hiya guys!
Talk about impulse buying!! Thanks to Waynetheman. Went to the store he mentioned and HOLY C##P! There was a ton of stuff there with awesome prices! Saw a Browning X-Bolt for less than $500 new. Think it was a 300WSM but not sure. Anyways back to my story, molested the STI Ranger II, the S&W 4.25 Commander style, a Kimber, a Ruger. Had a budget so narrowed it down to the Ranger and the Smith. Looked at my bud and the store clerk, both pointed to the Smith. Clincher was the Smith came with 2 mags and the STI had one. Both guns were the same price! $699.99!!!! Down from $1300!! My only issue was the Smith has an external extractor. Before I get flamed one way or the other, it is purely an esthetic thing for me, I prefer the traditional 1911 look. Oh well, did not want to leave empty handed so to speak so now awaiting a STATT!! Stopped by another store on the way home and picked up a holster and a TAH DAH!!! Dlask mag for the gun!! So I ended up with something Dlask anyways!!

Hey Shooter! Seen your collection including that double barreled 1911! You have awesome toys. I'm on a more limited budget. One 1911 will do. May trade up to a REALLLLLY nice one one day though.
My cure for any big purchase fever?.... Threat of divorce! That would be too expensive!
