Hey gents,

I hope this is the right place for this thread...

I bought a nice used M6 from ####### about a month ago.

Unfortunately, it does not fire on the .22lr barrel.
- Tried 2 different brands (Remington, dreaded green box and CCI sub-sonic): none fired (see pic below, 3 rds in my hand)
- Tried a blank shot at the gunshop: didn't fire either (don't know the brand)
- That's 4 shots in a row

Sent it off the the gunsmith thinking it's gummed up and not striking hard enough.

Gunsmith tells me: it's badly manufactured and/or the firing pin is misaligned and striking the cartridge too much center, not close enough to the edge. He successfully fired 2 rounds with debatable results, see second pic (rds in the firearms but stock).

So, whether the seller knew it or not, it's obviously out of warranty and I don't have the invoice.

1) What do you think of this, should I second guess the gunsmith?
2) Do the spent cartridges look normal to you?
3) What are my option to troubleshoot it some more?

PS: damn, tried 3 different image hosting site and none make the pics show here...any tips?! What am I missing?

Any idea what I’m after? The pin looks normal to me but what do I know... how can I determine if replacing it would fix this or if anything else has be done?

Gunsmith was right. Bad manufacturing. Chiappa warranty is all but useless on a new in the box gun.
Sell it to someone who likes to tinker with junk with full disclosure and consider it a lesson learned and a headache avoided

I would agree the firing pin is not striking close enough to the edge of the cartridge rim. It also looks like it is striking excessively hard but this maybe because it is striking the cartridge case in an area not supported but the chamber.

I would contact Chiappa and sent then the photos. You might be able to get a firing pin out of them.

i am not familiar with the M6 other than a schematic I just looked at. i would try to figure out what is out of spec. I would take a .22 snap cap or an empty unfixed cartridge case and colour the base of the rim with a felt pen trying to get an excessive amount of wet ink on the cartridge with the cartridge in the chamber. Close the rifle and open it and see if it leaves an impression of the cartridge case on the receiver block. Is the firing pin hole at the rim or more entered on the impression? How large is the firing pin hole? The firing pin is a pin on a cylinder. If it's a large firing pin hole would be possible to have a new firing pin made with the pin more off centre on the cylinder? How much play is in the receiver when the action is closed? If you can determine which way the cartridge has to move to get the firing pin to strike the rim is it possible to realign the action by shimming it so it pushes the cartridge the appropriate direction when the action is closed?

Anyone know how to contact Chiappa. Not getting any response from their site email address.
Or does anyone know approved Chiappa repair enter in Ontario
Thanks
