Can you recommend a brass catcher for the M305? I have searched eBay, google, and CGN, but nothing has stood out to prompt me to make a purchase. The ones I did see had bad reviews.

I have a 3Bucc brass catcher for another rifle with a flat top pic rail and it works great. I would go that route but I wish to use the iron sights on my M305 and am not aware of a receiver mounted pic rail that would allow one to use the iron sights on the M305.

Do you know of a mounted brass catcher that works well on the M305 / M14 platform?

Thanks for your help!

3buc is supposed to have one in development..no eta.

I use a table top one that gets most of them. I'd like an irons friendly one for the rifle as well, though.

How about taking a fine, scoop type fishing net and cutting off the handle and mounting in a block of wood?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm looking for a portable brass catcher that remains mounted on the rifle while off-hand shooting in the woods, etc. For stationary shooting at a bench, I just use a cardboard box on its side with a weight of some sort in it.

Yes the 3Bucc one shown here: http://www.3bucc.com/m1a.htm is the one I'm leaning towards getting. Can anyone give a first hand review of it? It looks pretty good as one can operate the charge handle while the brass catcher is installed. A bit more bulky than the ones designed for the AR flat top models.

Get a golf umbrella.. put it upside down on the ground where your rifle tosses brass... tada...

Not so good if you are moving and shooting though.. LOL

Back in my DCRA Service Rifle days, I would use my day pack on the right side of the AR ejection or M14 ejection port. This pack would stop the brass travel and place all the pieces will be in a neat pile. :D

If you are worried about losing your brass, just turn off the gas flow to the spindle valve and rack the rifle while attempting to re-direct the brass to a convenient collection method; hat, bucket, umbrella, pack

Cheers and keep sorting out the noobs here!

Lots of people have bought and installed brass catchers because they seem like such a great idea. Then they use it once, remove it and never use it again because they are a pia to shoot with and really mess up the carrying ergonomics on a rifle. Most people decide it's less hassle just to pick up the brass.

Yup... I've seen that on more than one occasion as well. LOL

I just modify tear a plastic bag of convent size and attach it to my rifle using twist ties, rubber bands, anything handy to secure it.

I was thinking about getting a brass catcher like this one for the mini 14 http://www.elmfg.com/store/brasscatcher.html#Anchor-2821

but with our dipsh** hoplophobic magazine laws it would be agonizing to have to monkey with this thing every 5rds. I have decided instead to try to make a small net I can set up next to me at the range but pack up small when I'm done. The oprod really limits your options.

If you shoot at the SPFGA range - some kind soul invented the best brass catcher out there. It is made of chicken or stucco wire and hangs down from the rafters like a curtain close to the shooter. To remove them you lift them off the rafters and then prop them up sideways and lay down beside them if you are shooting prone. My brass used to bounce off the cement and into the grass and I lost a LOT of good brass that way. With these home made jobbies I still lose the odd one...but I can live with that.

About the only disadvantage to this that I can think of is that if you are shooting - and a hot brass deflects back and lands on any exposed skin. It hasn't happened to me since I started using them...but I can see it happening.

Go check them out!!!

trouble with the e&l is that it blocks the scope mounting hole on the left side- to use it, you have to remove the whole left rail of the catcher, and then figure out some way to attach it securely to the right side only- I've tried no more nails, button fasteners and Velcro and none of them worked satis- factorily-as far as the rest of it goes, it's easy enough to remove the bottom of the reservoir and stick a 12 gauge ammo box holder - the plastic ones- they fit-
